Posted - 03/29/2004 : 13:45:03 Been using Netflix now for a month or so. I like it alot. Mostly because my mind doesn't go blank like when you walk in the video store. When you pick certain movies they give you recommendations based on your picks too. |

we have, my dad uses it! he loves it, for a monthly fee you can 'rent' as many dvd's as you want i think, you always have 1, so when they send a new one out you unwrap the packaging, turn it inside out, put the old dvd in and send it back... he loves it.

Posted - 03/27/2004 : 21:55:57 I'm wondering where they get the people to work at the distribution centers. I think that'd be a pretty damn easy job...taking in DVDs and sending out more.

Posted - 03/27/2004 : 13:52:47 I love Netflix. It seems to take only a day for DVD's to get to me, so I think it depends on where you are (duh) - but you can always have things coming and going and you don't need to worry about when you send it back. It's such a bright idea, I love it! |

Posted - 03/27/2004 : 13:09:57 I do Netflix as well. Me likey.
The only source of problems with Netflix is the speed of the mail. But rarely do I have any big mail-related problems; they take about 2 days to come from the warehouse to my mail box. Netflix continues to invest in more distribution zones so the time DVDs spend en route is minimized. With the amazing selection and numerous packages, it's very attractive.
I just upped it to 8 movies for $39.95. That's 8 movies out at one time, which gets me about 35 movies a month. That works out to $1.22 per DVD, tax included.

Posted - 03/26/2004 : 19:22:08 I made full use of screenselect.co.uk's free month trial watching about 10 dvds. As long as you have a list of 10 at all times they send you three, you can keep them as long as you like and you send them back in a freepost envelope thats provided. Kept me entertained it did to.

Posted - 03/26/2004 : 16:55:17 Yeah but worked it out to be that, but I don't usually watch that many. I would love to but:
a) I would end up watching a lot of crap.
b) It's more distraction from my guitar, and this place is enough of one.
Hmmm I'm not sure I want to refer to this place as a distraction. I wouldn't come here if I didn't love it, and all who reside within it.

Posted - 03/26/2004 : 16:54:19 I don't know too much about it, but I think you can 'rent' movies from http://www.movielink.com
You DL them to your PC. The DL is good for 24 hours.

Does anyone think that the online-rental thing will really catch on?

Found that page which basicly lists everybody everywhere thanks to this thread here:

One guy says that he tried out Green Cine for a month cause they do have certain movies that are exclusive to them, but in his one month trial, he never received any of the "exclusive" movies cause they were obviously in high demand. Netflix seems to be the best of the bunch.
I don't know how much you guys pay to rent DVDs over there Homer, but I figured out the math...it's usually like $3-$4 for a DVD rental for a few nights. This is $20 for unlimited movies (3 at a time)...if you are likely to rent more than 5 DVDs a month, it's well worth it.

The second two are good if you watch a lot of movies though (and I mean a lot). I might keep this in mind. Thanks Jim.

Posted - 03/26/2004 : 16:07:37 I've never done it myself but I heard Netflix kicks ass. If you watch enough DVDs, it pays for itself. Netflix is $20 a month and you can watch as many movies as possible. You make a list of all the movies you want and they queue up...they send you 3 at a time along with a prepaid postage envelope to send them back in. When you're done watching them, you send em back and they send you the next 3...wash rinse repeat. It's especially cool if you live in the middle of nowhere and have to drive forever to get to the video store. The only downside is waiting to get a movie versus picking it up and watching it that night.
Netflix is supposed to expand to the UK, I'm pretty sure. I did some research and the UK has the same services. Here's a few I've found, thanks to Google. I don't know of any other in the US besides Netflix...I think Walmart has their own thing, but if ever you have the opportunity not to support Walmart, do it.
