Posted - 03/19/2004 : 18:33:55 Hey everyone, just thought I'd shake things up a bit with a new topic. I was just looking at Proverbial Cereal's (Derek) profile, and in his "cool links" section, he has homestarrunner.com! For anyone who hasn't seen it, it's a pretty funny and interesting (if somewhat fucked up) website. Derek, did you see the "Trogdor" episode? Almost pissed myself laughing! Frank should DEFINITELY cover that tune, with Joey and Dave wailing away with their guitars in the background, Scott and Dave providing this "impending doom" sounding rhythm section, while Frank screams "TROGDORRRRRRRRR!!!!!"
If anyone's intersted in reading my thoughts regarding the music industry and people's tastes (or lack thereof) in music, check out the "Trompe le Monde: What's wrong with it?" thread. I posted a nice review there too.
I had a REALLY weird, eery, creepy thing happen to me the other day. As I stated in a previous post, I'm in a band, and back in November '03, we recorded an album. I was listening to it the other day (just for the hell of it - I don't listen to it that much anymore), and after I was done listening, I took it out of my player and put in Bossanova. I walked away from it for a bit (went to eat lunch, or something), and when I came back, I thought something was a bit...strange.
I said, "huh, I must've left my band's C.D. in". But the display said "14 (songs) 39:45". I thought it was weird, because my band's album is EXACTLY 39:45 in length, but it only has 12 songs, not 14. So I opened my player, and sure enough, there it was...BOSSANOVA!! How creepy is that!!? My group's album is the EXACT same length as a Pixies album!! Freaky!! Another weird coincidence, was that the guitarist had made himself a really cool shirt, and he wore it on the last day of recording for the album. Guess what the shirt said... "THE PIXIES"!!!
Coincidence? I think not!! There was definitely some weird, alignment of the planets, U.F.O., Area 51 type shit goin' on there! Perhaps Frank could enlighten us... Another instance of NEARLY EQUAL coincidence is The Breeders' "Last Splash" album, which is 39:44 in length. (Now how weird is it that all these albums clock in at exactly the same time?)
One thing I wanted to ask, was has Frank heard any of the covers from the FB and Pixies tributes? I bet he'd be proud. I'd love to hear his reactions. I've downloaded about half of the "You Ain't Me" tribute, and I'm lovin' it. Doog does Headache very well, Asterid's Elvis styled His Kingly Cave is perfect, Derek Olson's White Noise Maker sounds almost like Frank singing, and Parchment Farm does 1826 justice. Well don't want to spoil my review, I'll wait til I download the whole thing. Just wanted to share some weird stuff and questions with you.
Until next time, rock on!
