That's my attempt at Erebus-esque exhaustive lyrical supply.
"Join The Cult Of Frank/In Ten Words Or Less"
I'm not sure I'd recommend this song...it's about a serial killer, you know
no signature- I can't write so well |

Hey, all I did was visit a Stan Ridgway fansite, cut, & paste. ; ) I love that song and the album it came from. Gambling isn't my drug but I know the beast we call Excess. |

Posted - 03/15/2004 : 14:39:18 thanks for the suggestions everyone. especially Chip Away Boy.
i don't have plans to go soon, i'm just preparing in advance. i've actually been making a conscious effort to stay away from Vegas recently, because it's counter-productive to certain financial goals i have.. but last night i was getting the urge. and thought that if i do go soon, which i probably will, a gambling-themed soundtrack would be fun. |

I suggest: Luck be a Lady or High Hopes |

Drivin' outta Vegas in their automobile She was in the back seat while he was at the wheel With the windows wide open
All the money from the store, they'd gambled away He said "the best laid plans often go astray"
She took the page of a book and turned it down She lit a cigarette, she didn't make a sound
"And I know, if we'd had just one more chance," he said "I know, we'd finally hit the big one at last", she said
Chorus: (Instead of) another lost weekend Lost weekend Another lost weekend Lost weekend
"Pull over soon," she said, "it's no big deal, You can take any exit that you happen to feel Is the right one" The right one
As she slowly blew her smoke out the rear wind vent She thought back on all the letters she'd sent For a contest to be on a quiz game show
"Maybe I shoulda stayed in school," he said "Yeah, I know––start your own business cleanin' swimming pools," she said
Chorus repeat x2
She leaned over the front seat and twiddled with the radio dial She looked out the window, saw a sign, and both of them began to smile "There's a place we can stay at... it's up another mile."

Posted - 03/15/2004 : 10:35:12 Wilco - Casino Queen Stones - Tumblin' Dice Gram Parsons (or the Cowboy Junkies version or even the Emmylou Harris version) - Las Vegas
The Gram Parsons song is great in capturing the despair of Vegas, so, if you havent heard it seek it out...
"The first time I lose I drink whiskey The 2nd time I lose I drink Gin The 3rd time I lose I'll drink anything cause I think I'm gonna win"
or
"Well, i spend all night with the dealer Tryin' to get ahead Spend all day at the holiday inn Tryin' to get out of bed"
Now that my friend is Vegas... |

Posted - 03/15/2004 : 01:50:23 I think Neil Young's 'Cripple Creek Ferry' mentions a gambler and it's a nice singalong number.
Also:
The Clash - Three Card Trick (don't think it's necessarily about gambling though)
B52's - Queen of Las Vegas
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas (magnificent band and song)
REM - All the way to Reno (does Reno count?)
ELO - Poker
Ween - Blackjack
Enjoy the trip Floop! Wish I was coming along.
