Posted - 03/12/2004 : 19:50:08 Who has some odd ones, or downright spooky ones? For example:
1. The week of June 16, 2000 (that date was the 9:30 Club show, the night I decided I wanted to be a rock star), I drove out to PA to meet The Bennies in person and to see them open up for Frank Black in Philly and DC. I met them through the AbstractPlain, a FB mailing list. After that point, a year and a few days later, I moved to PA. On June 16, 2004, I will be landing in London, England to meet the wonderful Melanie, whom I met on the frankblack.net forum.
2. My first real girlfriend was 18 when I was 15. My next girlfriend was 23 when I was 18. And now I'm 21 and Mel is 18. Third time is a charm, yes?
Cue eerie music. I can't think of any others. Anybody?

Jesus probably wasn't actually born in December, by the way.

I swear I was in a meeting and we were trying to coordinate our schedules and someone said "Christmas is on the 25th this year" and there was this silence and we all telephathically decided to let the comment go and spare the woman who said it the embarrassment.

You are so right with 17. 17 is my lucky number and has been since I was in a car behind a limo that had a number plate that read BET 17. This was at the lights in front of a casino in Surfer's Paradise in Australia. That night I went to the casino and 17 came in around 8 times in around 30 spins.

Posted - 03/16/2004 : 05:02:13 Interesting subject - one that has always fascinated me. I think in some circumstances, yes it id purely because you are looking for it. I do agree to an extent Dave.
But, however, I also feel that everyone has a number which is, and will be significant through out their lifes. Its all to do with numerology, which I have looked in to to quite some depth. Yeah, ofcourse coincidenses arise, but in some situations that is not the case. One part of numerology is workuing out your number via your name and birth date - my numbers add up to a number which is both rare, and isnt the best meaning in the world. It basically means im doomed, - by self sacrificing, which sucks, but also very true..
Obviously your mind plays a big part in all of this, such as what Jim was saying re: June 16th..yeah ok, its more than a little coincidence, but at the same time, a lot of people are affected by times of the year, and seasons in the year, and this could be playing a [art in why he makes such large decisions for that time of year. Anmd yes, i mean if you paranoid about anything, it becomes much more real...much more erm, cant think of the word, but it would stand out more in your mind.
However, what Crouton was saying re: dreams, I disagree. I actually kept a dream log for a number of years, because things kept happening that id dreamt about - never good things either. Dreams are your mind playing on your sunbconsious, and twisting the thing in side, at the back of your mind.
But there are many different forms of dreams, and people on average have 5 + per night, they only remember particular ones (usually the most recent to their awakening). I believe that everyone of those dreams plays on different parts of your brain - some premonitions, some on your subconsicous, some just playing on things that happened the prev day...etc etc, theres many more.
Some people just remember more than others.

Well a couple of years ago, just after 9/11, my friends and I were plagued by the number 22. Our 7th grade "field-trip" was in Washington D.C. It kept on getting delayed until June 22nd (After school had been out for a couple of weeks.)..so then we're put into our groups which we got to choose ourselves for our rooms. When we get there our room is number 122...but the way the doorman showed us our room was scary as hell...he was like "Ah, here's your room...Number 1 hundred and *turns and faces us and says in an almost evil voice* twenty-two." and he just kept glaring at us...which was fucking creepy. So then we got settled in and our TV wasn't working..the only channel we could get was number 22. It kept following us the entire trip...and then the next year for the 8th grade trip it happened again...22 was everywhere. Probably just coincidence...but still quite weird.

Whenever I used to look at any 24 hour clock at night, it would nearly always seem to be 22:22. I used it as my lucky number for a while but it didn't turn out to be partilularily lucky unfortunately.
When I was living in Australia in '98, my friends and I were driving passed the casino in Surfer's Paradise and we stopped at the lights behind a limo. It's reg. plate read 'BET 17'. That night we went to the casino and 'cos I was a bit short of cash I decided just to watch other people lose their money. I went straight over to the roulette wheel and 17 came in 6 times in about 15 spins. As you can imagine I was extremely gutted that I didn't have any cash on me. It's been my lucky number since though. Much luckier than 22.

Posted - 03/14/2004 : 22:05:27 No, I can guarantee you that that is not the case. Believe me, there's a big study. Unless you keep a dream-log (which is where each time you wake up you immediately write down your dreams) ,and you wrote down something before it happened, then it's your brain fooling you. It makes you swear to yourself that you really did have the dream...but chances are you didn't...

I'll have to do some research on this...but I'm pretty sure I'm right.

Posted - 03/13/2004 : 22:23:48 Funny you bring this up, this was in WIRED today:
Madrid's 9/11 Connection
The Madrid bombings on Thursday, March 11, have eerie numeric links to the Sept. 11, 2001, al Qaida attacks on the Pentagon and the World Trade Center in New York. Not only did the Madrid bombings occur two and a half years, to the day, after the U.S. assaults, but there were also exactly 911 days between the two terror attacks. Spanish officials have not been able to determine who is responsible for Thursday's commute-hour bombings, in which almost 200 people were killed and more than 1,400 injured.
As for the 'recurring number' phenomenon that people seem to experience, it's really just your mind. We see numbers constantly..it's 10:13, the last post was on 03/13/2004 at 16:07:56 and there's a 14, 13, 12, 4, 2, and pi.
The reason you seem to encounter the same number over and over is because you're actually looking for it.
Pick a number at the beginning of the day, and i promise you'll see it crop up continuously.
Really, it's only 'occuring' because you're looking for it.
Sorry to disappoint! =)
