I'm not familiar with Fugazi at all, so I'll throw the name Mudhoney out there. This is not as smooth as Mudhoney, but somehow that's where it leads my mind. My thumbs are way up to the bass player and drummer on this one. They both manage to lend a bit of flair to a song that could easily have become way too monotonous. The singer has a good bit of style, too, but there are a couple spots where it sounds like he's trying just (this much) too hard. Good pick, I think I'll have to check this band out more.

Nothing is ever something.

Some of you guys are brutal, he is 100 times a better singer than Fugazi's singer. It is a real fun song, did any of you watch that video. That was some funny shit. Maybe a live song isn't the right choice, but the song is not boring like some I just downloaded from your music ring list.

The only downside is their website needs alot of work. I did read the "HISTORY" section and there was some funny stuff. I'd give them another listen if you linked another song.

A fun sound with the bass and guitar. The drummer is doing some interesting variations.

Reminds me a mixture of fugazi, the pixies, and old subpop sounds.

Catchy, overall...

...though he loved to rock and roll...

This is pretty Fugazi like, it might be hang over but right now I can't really say much more. I have no idea if I'll enjoy this later on or not but I'll probably get more into Fugazi before I get into this.

No, not too keen on this. Was interested until the song arrived at the first chorus. I have no problem with loud/quiet songs but there has to be a melodic link between the sections. This sounds a bit like two songs that have been cut up and merged.

Maybe the studio version is more successful??

Seriously dislike this.

It does kinda sound like Fugazi. Something from 'Steady Diet Of Nothing' ? Long Division, maybe?

i liked the Something Good Is Going To Happen for a small blip in time (someone on this list was kind enough to burn it for me .. who could that have been?).. but as a whole they're not for me. i like the song King Of The Damned (from the abovementioned, cool keyboard stuff) and a few others on that album, but there's something lacking for me too.

The walking bass and guitar parts that keep tension might have a better effect on me if they didn't sound so much like Fugazi. In fact, I think it might exactly like a Fugazi song, I'd look for it if I felt up to it. The rest just doesn't work for me because it feels gimmicky, no life.

The singer has a great voice, it sometimes reminded me of Robert Smith in the Three Imaginary Boys era, but overall, this song wants to be crazed and frenzied, warped, and angst-ridden, but just ain't got no soul. I would be willing to hear something else from them, 'cause it might not be fair to judge them on this one song. IMHO, their personality just doesn't match the dynamism that this type of song should have.

Nope, nothin doin. The screaming bit doesn't seem to fit right (probably deliberately), I want to like it but I can't like it says above its missing something.

Jack-Whitish voice + (Pixies-influenced?) quiet/loud formula=not enough to get me. It lacks a little something that would keep me interested. A twist. A spark. The tiniest grain of salt.

(I haven't posted in a long time in these threads either, but not from lack of interest... only because "procrastinator" is my middle name. So here I am. I wouldn't want to get the boot!)

I don't really know what to say. I may check out some of their other stuff, I can see these being something I could be into but this song doesn't quite do it for me, needs a couple more listens. I'll report back.

Wow that was quick, I almost didn't scroll down to the general chat. I'm glad I did this ahead of time.

The band is Baboon. The song I picked, Closer, is from an EP that is out of print called We Sing And Play. The only version of the song I have is from their live CD. I uploaded the song to my very small 10 MB space on the web. If it lags I'm sorry just try again later.

This is the link where I put the song.

I also uploaded the video for the same song. A link to it is at the bottom of the above web page. The video itself is worth the download. Hope it works and hope you enjoy.

If I forgot anything I'll edit later.
