I agree with most of the ring so far. It's nice, but I wouldn't give it more than a couple of listens.

I guess we all have to comment on each song, but I feel conflicted when I don't like one of the songs. I'll just give my honest humble opinion. No harm meant! 
On the positive front: the lyrics are interesting, and she has a good voice. The surge/swell toward the end is the best moment, as it drowns out some of the issues, and it takes on some drive and a bit of soul.
The singer has an irritating habit of over-annunciating, which unfortunately makes her sound contrived and halting. Beyond that, I just don't like this kind of music, it's too cutesy and sing-songy for me. I think they might do better removing the synth and samples - they sound to me like filler trying to cover up for tepid songwriting. The samples come in at awkward levels or moments, the drums don't punch, and the whole construct kind of totters. It seems cobbled together as an afterthought, pieces and parts. I wonder if they are better live, and all this is mostly the fault of their producer? I think I can see a bit where they intended to go with this, but I would probab;y not like their music if it were better executed. Just not my thing, that's all.

It took too long to get to the song. The build up was flat so by the time she started singing I was ready to quit. At first her voice didn't grab me, but by songs end it was growing on me.
At the end of the day, after also listening to "With Arms Outstretched, I probably would grow tired of the songs.
Side note for the next person that links a song: try to post a link to the bands website so we can check out other stuff. Sometimes I'm lazy and want others to do the work for me.

I don't really like this one very much. Her voice and the guitar work are what I find the least appealing. Sure, they're both decent, but the style with which they are applied just seems boring to me. That break at two and a half minutes or thereabouts got me excited because I thought the song might take off to some unexpected conclusion, but it just never happens, which makes it seem like even the band knew they had to do something to change pace but changed their collective mind partway through. Without wishing to sound too harsh, this is the kind of music that made me want to quit listening to the local university radio station. I understand that many, many people really seem to enjoy it, I just can't figure out where the appeal comes from. Oh well, that's taste for ya...

Its a nice song. Like the intro and her voice is very purdy. Can't say this is my type of band but its nice and easy to listen to. Could happily put this on a mix cd and enjoy. Infact thats what I shall do.

Not bad. The drums sound a bit sluggish/dull/heavy - not sure I can express the right words.
A bit poppy for me. The singer has a good voice - reminds me of Juliana Hatfield, Magnapop and Frente.
I doubt I would listen to this on a regular basis but would probably spin it every 6 months or so (like the above three bands)

i've heard this before, but i don't have it. a friend of mine is a pretty big fan.
i like what i hear. nice poppy guitar rock, with some electronica thrown in there. and a cute-sounding singer. i'm curious what the rest of their stuff is softer or harder than this. if it got any more soft, i might not be interested... but if they've got more rockin stuff i'd be curious. |

Hey Malax -you can just quote yourself (and cut and paste the list and link code) from the other thread. What do you think of having a running thread rather than separate threads for each new song? Then you can just edit the thread topic to indicate the current member. I dunno - just an idea. Probably sucks, but I'm tired and I've got ice on my fingers and my toes, and I'm a tard
