Anyone here familiar with the work of Sufjan Stevens? His last album, Greetings from Michigan! The Great Lakes State got some real great reviews and he's about to release his new one, Seven Swans. He's trying to release 50 albums, one about all the states in the US (the Seven Swans album is a one-off collection of leftover songs mainly based around the banjo and dealing w/ religion). His stuff is really fantastic, check out www.sufjan.com

PS - Any idea how to pronounce his first name? Suf - Jan? Suf - Yan? Car - los? Never heard that name before.

PPS - 'tain't nuthin' wrong with scented candles. Chicks dig 'em.

I think I'd like to actually hear the full album...it's very interesting, some of the stuff is very beautiful. I don't know if this guy wrote the little stories when you click on the different cities, but they are fuckin brilliant. The story about Detroit is beautiful...completely spot on. It's so very true, and I guess you'd understand it a bit more if you were from Michigan.

Yow. Sorry folks, I hate this. Never heard of him before, but now I hope I never do again. If I ran a record store, I would put this under "Music for Choosing Scented Candles". I hate scented candles, too. Just so you know. To each their own.

That's cool that he did Michigan first...mostly cause I'm from Michigan.

I really like Greetings..., it's a wondefull album. He's musically very deep, and has a pleasant, easy going voice. It's a great album and I'm looking forward to more from him. He's kinda got that Jim O'Rourke vibe going, which will tide me over until the next Jim O'Rourke album.

Yeah, I've heard a couple of his songs actually and I from what I remember it was certainly worth checking out.
