What are you favourite guitars? They don't have to be ones you actually own, just your favourite guitars in general.

Mine are Fender Jaguars/Jazzmasters and Fender Telecasters. I just wish they were a bit lighter.

I also like the look of a Schecter Hellcat but I have never heard one.

Well I like my Fender Katana and my Fender Gemini 2. Ya gotta love a Strat or a Tele though. Also pretty much any Gretsch. Gotta include Rickenbacker. Like some Gibsons and Martins. Yep.

Played one, wasn't impressed, at least not when you consider the price tag.

Overpriced? Maybe...then again, most quality guitars are, I would say.

But "junk"? Are you on fucking crack? Have you ever played a PRS? They are wonderful, wonderful guitars. Tastes vary, maybe its not your style or your tone choice, but they are far from junk, dude.

I have to agree with ya PsychicTwin PRS is nice. I like the Santana model myself. You can really rip on them and sound so clean. But it'll take years before I can buy me one.

Apparently Gibson Guitar Corp has just won a lawsuit that PRS infringes on the trademark of the Les Paul model or something. Hope that's true, PRS are overpriced junk for horrible metal players.

My guitars are The Gibson Les Paul Studio with the 490R & 498T Alnico humbuckers, in Wine Red *drools*

And the Fender Stratocaster Texas Special, I wonder if they have it in Candy Apple Red. Because my Telecaster Nashville Delux came in Candy Apple Red and looks nice, I was hoping that Strat could match it because it sounds so nice.

Couldn't agree more I used to watch MTV2 a few years back for all the genuine 'indie' bands that were featured on the channel. Now you can watch MTV2 and turn over to MTV and virtually see the same fuckin' thing with Britney Spears thrown in once in every once in a while. Oh, and Zane Lowe is an utter twat.
Back to guitars though, I am a Fender man!
Eletrics: I own a Fender Telecaster custom 72 RI (black/maple), a Fender Japanese Jaguar 62 RI (sunburst/rosewood), a Custom Telecaster FMT HH (black cherry burst/rosewood) a Tokai breezysound Telecaster (natural)
Acoustics: Fender DG 20, Crafter FX-550

The problem with the Jag is that the angle over the bridge is to shallow. You can buy a device (from Allparts) called a buzzstop to cure this. The other problem is the saddles, they have a desire to flip sometimes (but with a buzzstop fitted, they don't) just install Mustang saddles, they will not flip. Do not change the bridge!!

i had a gibson once then brit plop exploded and i had enough. totally gutted the thing and turned my ol' acoustic into a mean(ish) power chord six string.
talk about feedback!

my friend havent seen mtv2 for a while but so many stuff out there poncin around with their axes i'm waiting and watching for the fake wanna be alt.scene to appear again and you know we'll be drownin in fenders.

Fender for me, if only 'cos they play better. So much easier to wield, much less cumbersome. They look so much nicer too and you can get more out of them tone wise.

I have heard differing reports on Mustangs, some love them, some think they are shit budget guitars. Jaguars always seem to get great reviews (except for the bridge). I really want to give a Mustang a try but no shops sell them left handed.

I believe you are right about Jag-Stangs too. Some people love them but a lot of people say they are shit. They sure do look good though.

Have you noticed how many new bands now are using Jaguars and Jazzmasters? There are loads. I sat watching MTV2 at my mate's flat the other week and about 6 bands in a row had a guitarist who used one. They are definately growing more popular. Probably 'cos of last years re-issue of the Jaguar.

mate

got mine for around £400 in a backstreet shop back home. couldnt believe it. seen a few floating aroung and some re-issues going for over 1000. the mans right about the floating bridge though. bit dodgy. i experimented with a telecaster bridge.

the one to get in my selfish opinion is a mustang. theyre thinner lighter and play well. but thats just me. boy did i go through a kurt stage or what.

my frind owns a jag-stang but keep away. oh...they look nice though.

for all you in the uk...fender or gibson?
thats the question. or not.

mike, if (when!) you get a jag, stick a mustang bridge on it. i can't remember if i said that already. my mustang is quite defunct at the moment as it's bridge is on my jag, and the jag on the stang. not to mention how poor the stock mustang pups are.

That's a beautiful guitar you got there Black Fender. I nearly got a leftie version of the excat same guitar (even the colours) on Ebay a couple of months back but the guy wanted too much (700 English pounds). I really want a Jag, although the bridge problems put me off a little.

hey homer!

nice subject. i own a white fender jaguar with red scratchplate. pretty boring, until i saw the catholics bout two years ago and frank played the exact same when playing so. bay. how cool! not very. but boy was i happy inside. call it my surf guitar. i get pissed with friends who buy a guitar for its looks "wow! it cost £400". yeah but mate, it plays like sh*t!
misleadtheworld Posted - 03/12/2004 : 12:12:44
i'm pretty sure he used the comtemporary exclusively up until about bossanova, it's what gives his rhythm that 'clunky' sound. i know he also used mustangs, jags (i think) and some weird yellow guitar i've seen, around the bossanova and trompe era (you can see it in the alec eiffel and los angeles videos). yeh, he used standard teles too. i can hear the contemporary tele on the orange album and teenager too, but i think he moved onto standard teles onward from CoR.

i agree, the regular tele looks much nicer than the contemporary, but my mustang is the pretty guitar; this white contemporary will have to be it's ugly sister heh!

*edit* oh, also, how lucky did you get with the amp then mike?!

Frank Black / Teenager of the Decade....
Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 03/12/2004 : 11:19:16
You know I never noticed that before. He did use regular ones too though didn't he?

Gotta be honest with you though Tom, for looks I prefer the regular design. Having said that, the stripes look cool and white is an excellent colour for a guitar. That's what colour Tele I want.

Good luck with your amp search. Hope you get as lucky as I did.

nope, it's a fender. a contemporary one, like frank's pixies one. i drew stripes on it, because i heard it makes 'em go faster.

nice! very nice. i like the way the controls are on top on that model. i broke my amp yesterday. rather annoying. it fell over and bust the input jack hole. i suppose it can be fixed, but i'd rather get a new one, heh. fender twin perhaps?! £££ perhaps not.

mm, a frank tele! it should arrive sometime next week hopefully. another import from the states. the exchange rate is so low at the moment, which brings me onto....a lefty jag i've just noticed! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3709641140&category=33039 give the seller a bell and see if he'll ship to the UK if you want it. i'm not sure how much it'll cost you with shipping / import tax. shipping is generally about $90. import tax is between 15% and 20% of the total cost (inc. shipping).

but back to the tele, what do you think....

to stripe, or not to stripe?

Thanks for the Jag tip-off Tom.

As for the the Tele, is that one an Ibanez??? Sure doesn't look like a Fender.

Huh? I have a Jazzmaster, and it's hardly a heavy guitar! Now, the G&L I have is another story...it actually gives me shoulder cramps if I haven't played it standing up w/ a strap for a while.

I do have a Jazzmaster reissue, though...do you think they might have used a different wood for the original series?

Mosrite guitars are also awesome, albeit hard to come by...I would love one of those. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depends on how you look at it) I'm holding off on music purchases for a while.
I just bought my dream amp...

a Fender '65 Twin Reverb...brand new...w/ reverb and vibrato channels built in. Sounds AMAZING. brings a tear to my eye and a chill to my spine. i'm so fucking HAPPY!

I was inspired to get a Tele because of Black Francis' wonderful usage of the instrument. However, I've always liked the rounded tone of a lot of Gibson-style guitars.
