 I love Harry Nilsson's work. One of my musical "heroes". His VOCALS were heavenly and the way he arranged them on songs. His songwriting fit so many diff genres. just wanted to weigh in on an all-time fave of mine. |

Before he even hit it big with "Schmilsson " the Beatles heard his records. When Lennon & McCartney came to the states for a press conference for Apple, among the generic questions reporters asked was, (to Lennon): "Who is your favourite solo artist"? Lennon said : "Nilsson" They asked McCartney who his fave group was. He said "Nilsson". haha......because of all the diff voices and instruments Nilsson beautifully wove into each song |

Yeah he was one of a kind. Even made fun of his own stardom when "Nilsson Schmilsson " became a big hit by naming the follwing lp "Son Of Schmilsson". Both are superb. Speaking of his songs/performances being in soundtracks, Scorsese had Nilsson's Jump Into The Fire" all over that last crazy coked-out Ray Liotta scene in Goodfellas. And of course Harry's "I Guess The Lord Must Be In New York City" and "Everybody's Talkin'" in Midnight Cowboy. |

I somehow managed to not really listen to much Nilsson until the last year despite having been aware of him for over half my life time. Even though he only had a handful of hits, he's been used on a lot of soundtracks. I think I first heard him on the Forrest Gump soundtrack, and later Reservoir Dogs and Rules of Attraction. A roommate a couple years ago had the Schmilsson album cover poster in our bathroom, so I recognized the album cover at the store last year and figured it was an album I should know more than just the hits off of. What a fantastic record! I have a "best of" as well. I'd like to check out more of his albums, though.
