Posted - 12/19/2013 : 17:07:01 I know I should be posting this in the Frank section, but has anyone else noticed that The Cult of Ray is an amazing album? I drove back from Chicago with my girlfriend listening to this album this weekend and she had never heard it before and commented on the quality of the album. She then said, "I shouldn't be surprised, I haven't heard anything bad from him."

I Don't Want To Hurt You is an awesome song too, one of my favourite of Frank Black in general. Love the lead guitar on this album especially on songs like You Ain't Me, Jesus Was Right and Mosh. It's refreshing to get back to basics production wise after TOTY but still, it doesn't sound TOO rough, just nicely...real.

Sometimes. It goes on too long and usually just doesn't work for me. There are times I have enjoyed it but usually I skip. |

Posted - 12/20/2013 : 15:30:20 An amazing album, one of my favorites. I think it's the perfect follow up to Teenager's wonderful sprawl. However, I prefer it with my own tracklisting:
Marsist/Men in Black/You Ain't Me/Jesus Was Right/I Don't Want to Hurt You/Creature Crawling/Taco/Mosh/Adventure & Resolution/Dance War/Cut of Ray/Last Stand
I'm rarely in the mood for Punk Rock City. The Marsist is perfect first, a nice, groovy tune. Then four fast moving ones. Take it down a bit with I don't, then slowly bring up the tempo. going from Creature to Taco, through both instrumentals, the craziness of Dance War and power of Cult. At that point, Last Stand is the prefect way to end it, slow and majestic.
I love this album, great for road trips. |
