Just been on a nostalgia trip, listening to old albums that meant something to me 10,20,30 years ago ( yes I'm an old-ish git, hence the username). A lot of the albums I used to listen to incessantly are long forgotten, obscure, regarded as 'guilty pleasures' etc.

eg..

Enflame - The Passage1983
A Manchester band that were kind of like a synth Fall. Alternately poppy and very dark, odd song structures, surreal lyrics. I loved them and this album was my favourite.

This last Night in Sodom - Soft Cell1984
Yeah, I know - Soft Cell But this was a really great album - raw, weird, great tunes, tons of atmosphere. It was critically panned at the time, didn't sell and almost buried them, but I thought it was far and away their best LP (yeah I said LP..well it was 1984).

Dear Champ - Lizard Music1997
I picked this up one day in a bargain bin on a whim. No idea who they were. Turned out to be great - sunny, sardonic American indie pop. Listened to it loads. Never heard of them since.

What's This For - Killing Joke1981
This was long before they went a bit cheesy and gothic. An immense album, especially 'Unspeakable'. The next album 'Revelations' was great too.

Danger in the Past - Robert Forster1990
I loved The Go-Betweens and this was Forster's solo debut. Long forgotten but it's an affecting slice of folk/rock/baroque pop/country. The title track is incredible.

Well, they were some of mine.

What were yours?

Hehe. Ah you just reminded me of another album I love but only remember this time of year, and you know what - another Canadian!; Jane Siberry - Child. The only listenable "Christmas album" I know of. I was at that show when she brought it to London years ago. A lovely version of Hockey. She's funny as hell.

Hmmm. Let me think.

I don't think Rock'n'Roll forgot any bands I liked.

I need more free time to do this thread justice. Quickly:

Judas Priest, Screaming for Vengence
I don't have a copy I could listen to right now.

Lords of the New Church, Lords of the New Church
I still like some of it, but much of it isn't good. Some of it not good at all.

Loverboy.
I try not to think about it.

I got it! Very Emergency, Promise Ring

A band I immediately hated to admit I really liked

I can't remember at this time but promise to think it over

Killing Joke are (like Pixies) one of the most original 'rock' (if you can call them that) bands ever.

No need to be ashamed of Soft Cell. NSEC is fantastic. Never heard their other albums though.
