[:. I know there's a separate rip category but the only posts there were about that he was fat or burly or that a heart attack is not a bad way to go. I'd just like to say that this man was truly a GREAT actor, sensitive and talented. Everyone knows him as Tony Soprano, but he's been in a lot of movies and was excelent in supporting roles in all of them. Don't know if you've seen "Get Shorty". "A Civil Action", "The Mexican", "8mm" and, in last year's "Zero Dark Thirty", he was totally unrecognizable as he got into his role which was intense.
And even as Tony Soprano, his portrayal went far beyond a typical mafioso guy. He was unique & his perf was nuanced esp as he related to his wife, kids, mother and esp his therapy sessions wis his psychiatrist.
David Chase, the brilliant writer and creator of the "Sopranos", said that James was....'Mozart'....And, ours being a music forum i thought that was cool. And most important of all, Gandolfini was a very caring and humble man with a wife and 3 young kids. He lived here in NYC full time and peeps often saw him riding his bike or walking around. Just a cool guy. Much more than, as peeps on the rip forum said, a "fat guy" R I P, James.

Yes, the show displays vile people doing horrific things; some of it was difficult to watch.

Here's the interview. I think there are some spoilers for the show; I don't think I watched the whole thing.

I saw a movie poster with Harrison Ford on it; more than once. No wait, it was just that one time.

I once walked past Roger Moore in Dixon's at Heathrow Airport. He looked right at me, and I looked back at him. Fuck me it's James Bond! Well cool. I then bought a mini-disc player. I met James Bond in a shop, while I was in buying a gadget.

Well that's also another reason why I'm going to check it out. I like to keep up with my American series, they have made a lot of good ones. Once I'm up to date with Dexter, Breaking Bad and True Blood.

Yeah, I get it. But talk to anyone who saw all, or almost all, of the episodes and ask them about what Gandolfini, as an actor, brought to that role. Totally multi-dimensional

From what I have seen of it I didn't really like the main Character Tony Soprano much, but I suppose if I were to know someone like him in real life I probably wouldn't like him either.

It's a series in which I really didn't like nearly all of the characters, which made for a different viewing experience. Most shows, scratch that, all of them usually have protagonists whom I like and want to succeed.

Time for me to get round to finally watching this series then I suppose. I've heard nothing but good things about it #thesopranos

There's an episode of Barney Miller with a guy who looks exactly like him. To me.

I only know his work from the Sopranos; I did see some of a long interview/discussion with young actors online you might find interesting, I'm sure it's easily found.

Nice eulogy. Totally agree. I thought he was excellent in Killing Them Softly last year and I always appreciated the very humane beating he gave Alabama in True Romance. Wait that didn't sound right.

You gotta lotta heart, kid
