You guys provided such great feedback and suggestions for my last project that I thought I would ask for your help again. It is a music website:
www.VforVinyl.com
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. It took sometime to build, but I'm not sure if it makes any sense, or if it's actually worth anything, or anyone's time..
Thanks, 1c |

Posted - 02/05/2012 : 17:57:03 I don't think this thing is going to change the world, or anything. It's just another website for music discovery, but in a different way. Odds are I will probably just let it sit there for a while, without any new features or improvements. I need to focus on more profitable ideas. Thanks again for the feedback. |

Posted - 02/05/2012 : 17:01:47 Get websites for indie bands involved as well, share links and stuff. Rip facebook a new ass.
I stopped using facebook recently after I realised just how much of a bunch of cunts they really are. I created a second account to follow bands, but I don't use it much. A site that brings new and old music together in an intelligent form is something that I would be interested in. |

Posted - 02/05/2012 : 16:57:32 I liked some of the 30s samples from that new album by Hospitality. Still getting round to looking for them.
As for the website design still now sure what it's purpose is. Vinyl collectors will be going to ebay and amazon to find records, but you want to create a website that does it for them? It's a nice idea but are you sure it's going to work?
I don't mean to go all dragon's den on you here.
I'd like to help if I can, but I don't know what to suggest for the design. As it is it's too basic. You don't want to go over board either.
Maybe you could take to some local independent record stores who deal in this kind of thing and are in danger of going out of business and come up with a plan? |

@Hammerhands I've never heard about that display you were talking about. A very neat concept, and I may try something like that in the future. Very cool - thanks! And I totally agree that 30secs is really unfortunate. But I'm guessing that it may be enough time to determine if you like the style/tunes or not. That's one of the main reasons why I'm not sure if the site is worth anybody's time, to be honest.
@onyone Yep. I haven't gotten around to making the site 'mobile friendly' yet, and kind of fear having to figure that out. Mostly because I don't have an iPhone and am pretty behind on the mobile tech side of things. I'll probably force myself to do that part of it before the end of the month.
@pot So the basic idea for the site is the user in a 'virtual' vinyl record shop flipping through the new release bin. As Frank once said, going to the record shop is like going to church. It's a pretty cool experience, and I wanted to emulate at least a part of that as best as I could. The MP3 samples and links are just a neat little bonus, in a sense. As far as designs go, if you have any suggestions, please let me know. But for the time being, I'll probably keep it super minimal, so people can just flip through tunes as quick as they want without being distracted by anything else.
Thanks, 1c |

Posted - 02/03/2012 : 06:34:06 FYI, in the 70's all the local record stores had a wall of 45s, they were all very similar. I can't find a photo of one.
Each store would have the top 10 (or 20) singles on display, each above a cubbyhole with a stack to sell. These would be in numerical order. Below this display was a chest with older 45s in the same arrangement you see CDs sold now, with alphabetical dividers. Each store had a different radio station's top-ten list. Most of the 45s only had plain white sleeves.

30 seconds is useless! Does Amazon still give away free mp3s? |

Posted - 02/03/2012 : 03:06:46 All I got out of it was- what's this all about then? You know...?
It was just a bunch of album covers, what are they vinyl re-releases, collectors items?
I've been dabbling a bit in some graphic design recently, just a bit of photoshopping and that really so just wondered if there was anything I could offer, maybe we can bang our heads together and come up with something. Haven't done any web design but been thinking about getting into it. Take a look at some of my stuff in the art forum, in particular maybe my Roosterman poster designs.. |

Posted - 02/02/2012 : 16:19:35 Yeah, I agree, it is a bit unclear. I am just curious to see what you get out of the site, if anything, without an overly explicit explanation. The design is minimalist, because it's not my favorite thing to do. Any suggestions on that front would be appreciated as well. |

Posted - 02/02/2012 : 10:34:12 What is the website trying to promote? It's a bit unclear.
Nice web address, very catchy.
Could do with a bit of work on the presentation though. Maybe I can help you with that. |
