Thought it would be better to keep this separate from the World Cup thread. Anyway...

For anybody interested in joining a fantasy league I've set one up at...

http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/index.html (just look for the fantasy WC section)

It's free to register and enter a team.

The code for the FB.net league is 305713-72177.

You can register now but can only pick your squad on June 4th, when all the final squads for the World Cup have been announced.

Good luck!

I suck. I created a team and then didn't bother editing it or making any subs or transfers throughout the competition. I'm sooo lazy!

Congrats on winning, fu!

I ended in 1262 place in the US (can't figure out how many there were).
fumanbru Posted - 07/12/2010 : 01:58:36
haha. yes, it's very funny cause it was meant as a joke...i don't know much about soccer and at the start of the tourny i only knew a few of the players..rooney, messi, kaka, robben, villa...overall 20,043 out of 907,978.

i definately want to go and see a professional soccer match one day....maybe i'll start planning a family trip to brazil in 2014.

Congrats fu!

I laughed when I first saw the name brilliantfutballmind. I'm not laughing now. Seriously you belong down on the touchline. I'd also like to know how you did overall.

Congrats fu!

I don't expect you to believe me but I would've won if I had been at home this weekend. Had no access to a computer so I couldn't do my subs between Saturday and Sunday's game.

Congratulations Fu!

(hope you had a good week cottaging as well.)

BTW:- Where did you finish in the overall points list in Canada?
darwin Posted - 07/11/2010 : 18:48:13
Congrats fu!! North America did pretty well with 1st and 3rd.
fumanbru Posted - 07/11/2010 : 18:43:53
thanks for setting up pixiestu! lots of fun..the substitution thing seemed a bit stupid but besides that i thought it was a pretty good pool.

I paid 18 negative points on transfers but picked up 64 on today's semi. Guess it was worth it. Tomorrow will be Germany's night (got six players on the field) or I'm the fool that left David Villa on the bench.

Anyone paying the negative points for more transfers? I've all of mine and only have 2 players on the bench.
darwin Posted - 06/29/2010 : 18:51:35
I guess I should have read the rules. The old points are wiped clean? Boo

looks like the pool switches to head to head knockout mode...now it gets personal..is kelladwella the only one left who's country is still representing?

I already have 3 strikers. I would have to bench Messi to play Ronaldo. I'm thinking I'll keep him on the bench (because of Spain) but I got burned last round by doing that.

Yep - I have the exact same dilemma, but with David Villa of Spain.

Maybe if you change your formation to 4-3-3 to accommodate and extra striker?

I think so. I've kept a couple of eliminated players on my squad. Will see when the deadline hits later today if it's ok.

i'm looking forward to the US game.. they've had some exciting games and i've loaded up on their players....

anyone have a vu vu zella? i was partying with a co-worker last night who is from south africa and he doesn;t have one...i was pretty disappointed.

If I'm correct, you have unlimited free transfers before the 1/8ths.

I don't really understand the transfers. Should I drop players who are now out before the Round 3 ends?
trobrianders Posted - 06/24/2010 : 07:02:05
Feeling good about my strategy and selections so far for the knockout rounds. I think I'm getting a good balance. A lot of ground to make up still. Round 3 was stingy on points

Finaly some points. Good for me that Argentina didn't concede a goal AND Demichelis scored one.

All yellow cards are wiped clean after the quarter finals. During the last world cup it was after the group stage. With that change of rules the FIFA wants to prevent that a player misses the final because of a second yellow in the semis. Like Ballack did in 2002.
darwin Posted - 06/22/2010 : 16:40:27
You never get sent out of a game for getting a second yellow (if they aren't from the same game), but I don't the answer about whether cards are wiped clean after the first round.
fumanbru Posted - 06/22/2010 : 15:56:33
i got a footy question.....if a player got a yellow card in the round robin and then another yellow card in the round of 16 does that mean he gets a red and is out of that game...plus out for the next game? or is it a clean slate for the round of 16?

thanks!
