Are there any Los Angelinos still on this forum? Floop? I have a question about traffic.

Wife and kids and I are spending a couple days at Disneyland next week, and then driving from Anaheim to Santa Barbara for dinner with our niece. The question is: Are there roads I should avoid during rush hour? I'm hoping to avoid spending a lot of time in gridlock. Or am I screwed no matter which way I go?

And all of this for nuthin', after all my huffin' and puffin'.

Disneyland was nice. The Disneyland Park side was too crowded (spring break), but we really enjoyed the California Adventure side. Great roller coaster.

And thanks for the Hearst Castle tip, Brian. My family really enjoyed the tour.

Cool deal! How was Disneyland?

We're staying at the Hyatt Regency Orange County, a couple miles south of Disneyland.

The plan was to leave Anaheim for Santa Barbara after the second full day at Disney (Monday) -- i.e., in the late afternoon. From what you guys say, it sounds to me like we should wait out rush hour, leave pretty late, and hope my niece likes eating late.

Then we're going to meander up the coastline to San Francisco for a few days there. Any cool stuff a family with two kids (7 and 10) should see along the way? We're planning overnight stops in Pismo Beach, Paso Robles, and Santa Cruz.

Coasty, what time/day are you driving from Anaheim to Santa Barbara? I would recommend, if you are going early day (like late morning), to take the PCH (CA-1)route. There is really no distance difference and you will have a wonderful ocean view off to your left pretty much the whole way. It'll take you probably 2.5 hours.

If you leave after 1pm, you'll be hating life.

Wow...where are you staying in Anaheim? I live like 15 minutes from Disneyland. Have a great time!!!

In case someone with real knowledge doesn't answer:

Do what you can to schedule things so you don't have to drive at rush hour. Drive up at 10am.

Or tell her to meet you in Malibu. And if you go to SB don't waste your time at Super Rica.
