Posted - 03/17/2010 : 01:44:58 seems pretty good...i think there are a fair amount of solid bands living in the area...i just discovered the band "she and him" as i was checking out the 2010 sasquatch festival line up. they're from portland...then there is modest mouse (i really like their latest ep), sleater-kinney, jason carter aka skippy, mark lemhouse, stephen malkmus....kelly keagy (drummer for night ranger), courtney love...rip elliot smith, larry norman.
i've never been down to portland. i'd really like to check out the area one day.
"I joined the Cult of Frank/ cause I'm a real go-getter!"...long live snitz!! |

Posted - 04/02/2010 : 00:12:28 Another one of my Portland favorites, HAZEL! Pete Krebs is still pretty active in Portland. And when Hazel does a gig, rarely, it seems a semi-big deal around town. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsJwNI1yiUY&feature=related |

Posted - 03/20/2010 : 00:23:52 Menomena and Explode Into Colors are a couple more good bands. My friends play in a Portland band called Here Come Dots. http://myspace.com/andherecomedots
Portland has Movie Madness, a large video rental store specializing in rare and out-of-print stuff. Highly recommended. |

Posted - 03/18/2010 : 12:02:20 I'd like to visit Portland one day. Gary Jarman from 'The Cribs' lives there (a friend of Malkmus, i believe) and Johnny Marr, too.
A Golem vocal is oh so similar to a Cribs track. |

Posted - 03/18/2010 : 11:55:08 Props to the success of Blitzen Trapper(from Portland). I was actually a neighbor of one of the guys in 2000 when they went by Garmonbozia. |

Posted - 03/17/2010 : 05:20:27 Great town. I can't speak to the music scene (other than the occasional surprise Frank Black appearance), but it's a fantastic place to visit. Beautiful city -- very clean, nice people, beautiful views of the mountains the 10% of the time they're not covered by clouds. I could easily live there.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |
