Captain Pasty to play up front but it's gonna be tough to get past Gigantic in goal. And watch out for Vamos on the counter-attack.

i wonder if frank was cheering for any team in particular. he has very strong ties to both the dutch and the spanish.

BLUEFINGER vs. SURFER ROSA

that would be a difficult match to predict the outcome. it is interesting to note that BLUEFINGER is kind of tough, dirty, and in your face. SURFER ROSA is fairly aggressive as well, but maybe a bIt more varied and polished.

One funny thing is that before, in the half-time and after the final match the famous "Isla de Encanta" Visa ad was aired, so it's a safe bet to say most of the spanish population was exposed to Pixies music last sunday, even if it was only for a few seconds.

I was rooting for Netherlands, but by the end that had waned because of their play. And at the very end I was glad that another finals wasn't going to penalty kicks. But I didn't think the goal was a thing of beauty.

I actually don't feel much spanish, if you ask me. There's nothing wrong with the country, I consider myself lucky for being part of it, with so different regions and cultures, it's just that the right-wingers have been telling us for so long what the real spaniards should look like that I've grown a bit sick of it all. I would like to feel proud of my country, but I doubt I'll ever do.

That being said, I love the fact that almost half the national team players are catalan or basque. How you like that?

Went to the match yesterday undecided on which team I'd like to see win. Outside the stadium the Dutch fans were partying and creating a super atmosphere so I started hoping for Holland. Once the match started though the Dutch were spoiling the match so badly that pretty soon we were cheering for Spain. Couldn't believe the Dutch fans jeering the ref at the end, if only their team tried playing the kind of football that got them to the final. Poor match but I was really happy for Spain in the end.

I've had a great time at this World Cup, in the end also going to Cape Town and Durban for the quarter finals and semi finals. The Germany - Argentina match was incredible to watch, Germany is my team of the tournament because of that match and Schweinsteiger my favorite player. Being inside the incredible Green Point Stadium on a sunny afternoon and watching perfect football was my highlight of this tournament.

Soccer City in Jo'burg, Moses Mabhida in Durban and Green Point in Cape Town were spectacular places to have watched football in.

Disappointingly our own team was terrible and failed way to soon. Most people here are very poor and cheering for their own team was the only fun they were going to get from the world cup, just no way they'd be able to afford to go matches or travel to attend fan parks or buy TV sets. Ghana did get everyone cheering again until that awful cheat by Suarez really killed the cup for Africa.

So we now have new airports, new highways and new (now empty) stadia. We're hoping this will all benefit the economy and eventually those in need.

Yeah not exciting football but an exciting match. The Dutch made a sick gamble which, lucky for the ref, didn't pay off. They could have just played instead, might even have won. Congrats Spain (especially given Holland's ungentlemanly conduct), but I'm disappointed you didn't score the winner, Xavi. ;)
whoreatthedoor Posted - 07/11/2010 : 21:48:54
Tried to get drunk, with no luck.

I actually found it pretty exciting, though I assume my point of view is biased. It would have been much more interesting if the dutch had tried to play football.

Congrats whore. Don't get drunk. Oh wait...

Finals are always pretty bad to watch. (except in '98 of course) Didn't bother watching the first half and the second one confirmed what I thought.

i was away on holidays with no access to tv so missed the last 10 days...saw the match today and thought it was pretty exciting. my wife's in laws are dutch so i was cheering on netherlands. first half was a bit slow, 2nd half picked up and overtime was great. it was pretty tough match to officiate and thought the english ref did a descent job...holland came out pretty aggressive and spain was pretty fiesty as well...too bad for the red card which pretty much cost them the game...holland had their chances to win it...spanish goalie was unreal..saw a clip with him and his sports journalist girlfriend after the game which is pretty neat...

How was it not? The Netherlands spent most the game trying to foul Spain rather than develop any offensive threats. There was some good keeping, but mostly whiffs on any offensive chances. No brilliance. Nothing memorable.

So, I'm guessing Brazil vs. Spain in the finals.

Close enough.

Pretty boring final (like last time).

I know you just speak out of resentment because we beat your empire with a couple peasants and a mule, but I disrespectfully disagree.

I actually think Pique has a high "rompebragas" factor.

I would have thought that given the many times we've beaten Mexico you would know better.

Sorry, I based myself on our last encounter, in last year's Gold Cup, when Mexico beat your ass 5-0.

The B team. I don't know about Mexico, but not a single one of those US players played for the US in this World Cup.
pixiestu Posted - 07/03/2010 : 15:42:55
Gutted that Paraguay are out but fair play to Spain. Both teams had their chances.
Germany to win the cup? That was my prediction, though it's still wide open.

Does anybody know why some shirts have these black stripe things around them and others don't? It looks like a support of some kind.

As a neutral, I wanted it to go to penalties but go Spain. Europe bites back.

Funny =) talking of penalties. I've just got home and switched on the match to watch 2 professionals miss their spot kicks.
