would you rather get:

a) an item on your registry like a stupid plate, knife, or fork set
b) a gift certificate to a nice restaurant

Well it does free them from having to painfully spend their own money on those 'neccesary' items. If you look at it that way you're doing them a really big favor. Then they can spend their own hard earned mon on fancy grub and booze.

Oh fuck it I'm with you. Let some other 'friend' buy 'em napkins.

i like your idea but honestly, when i think about what he likes to do it's eating and drinking (like me)

personally i wouldn't mind getting a gift certificate to a nice restaurant. especially if it's at a cool new place i've been wanting to try. or, if it's more of a special occasion type place, in terms of price. most people seem to think the registry is better though..

i just can't imagine spending money on a napkin set for my friend. that's almost insulting. and really, that's more of a gift for her and i don't really even know her. at least a dinner is for the both of them

maybe i should just get "them" a bottle of whiskey and Playboy subscription

You could always think outside the box and get a gift that really suits them. When i got married one of my best friends got us a really kickass tent, knowing we like to camp. Not on our registry, but still a great gift - and more personal than a gift certificate anywhere.

If it's me, I say b). If you ask my wife, she would definitely say a).
Thomas Posted - 11/05/2009 : 08:50:31
I'll go with b)

They don't know it yet, but they will want B.

But you can get them fork-all.
