Hi,

I am trying to save money and find good free places to grab a good sampling of free mp3s.

These places might be podcasts or just places to dowload the mp3s directly.

I really like the site that Pot has shown us- http://3voor12.vpro.nl/luisterpaal/# but since that is streaming and is only up there for a short time, I can't put it on my iPod.

One that I like so far is The Current Song of the Day: http://minnesota.publicradio.org/radio/podcasts/song_of_the_day/

Since a lot of you have great music taste and have exposed me to a lot of good music I thought I would pick your brains.

Thanks!

You can also use spotify, a mind blowing service. Or Pandora.

You also should check out www.mergerecords.com . It's a great record label and they stream lots of their new records. You can also try Pitchfork. Kristinhersh.com, Hersh releases everything for free.

And have you downloaded my own free record? http://www.escrec.com/category/escrec20

Searching for GOOD free stuff can be a pain.

This is my second attempt at writing this, so I
will post without it being completed and edit.

I always recommend CBC Radio 3 even though I have
hardly listened to it myself. One of the podcasts
is called Track of the Day. They used to have one
of the best sites on the internet, it opened up
like a magazine but it has since been scaled back.
http://radio3.cbc.ca/

Amazon.com, surprising to me, has quite a bit of
free music. I once got a Joe Strummer song from
there. Go to Amazon.com, select MP3 Downloads in
the search and click Go. Sort the grid by price,
Low to High. I'm not sure if that lists everything.
There are samplers from Rykodisc. Amazon.co.uk has
many fewer but different albums.

Itunes has a song of the week, but if there is
anything else free on there, other than podcasts,
I can't find it.

Check Artist, Label and Magazine websites.
for example:

http://www.theweakerthans.org/audiovisual/
(I watch 3 guys in the Elks video play almost
every Saturday)

At one time just about every Bettie Serveert song
was available, one a week, at their website, but
there is none now.

Again for the benefit of Mr.s Floop and Alex.

Spin Magazine has stuff available under the MP3
section, but you may need to know how to read and
edit HTML.
http://www.spin.com/section/mp3
http://www.spin.com/audio/play/55336 (right-click
this for some song by some band named Noah and
the Whale.)

Grooveshark's good Daisy and we7 is good too for checking albums out, stream only.
http://www.we7.com/

If you're trying to save money you could do what I did which was to switch from expensive studio albums to bootleg blogs like
http://liveandlossless.blogspot.com/
http://mixingdesk.blogspot.com/
http://madparade.blogspot.com/
There are hundreds of them and they're pretty easy to Google. Live concert sound is usually excellent (soundboard).

hype machine gathers all mp3s blogged into one easy searchable interface.

hypem.com

give it a whirl!

and grooveshark.com is great for streaming purposes.
