Posted - 06/07/2009 : 15:59:16 I have rabbit ears on my old tube TV and do not plan on making the switch.
I understand the dependency some elderly and disabled people have for the appliance but the way the story has been covered, the tone and 'last chance to convert' type wording speaks volumes. What do you think?

Back in February -- before the govt delayed the analog blackout -- I was envisioning two scenarios as a result of analog TV being turned off without warning: a) a spike in crime as people are driven psychotic by the dearth of available entertainment b) a fantastic cultural and intellectual renaissance as the country is severed from its umbilical cord of bullshit
(Personally, I think "b" is closer to what would happen. But with all the preparation and warning, we may never know.)

Admire the optimism.
"Michael J. Copps, the acting head of the Federal Communications Commission, said that the people most likely to lose reception are society’s most vulnerable — lower-income families, the elderly, the handicapped and homes where little or no English is spoken. The transition will also hit inner-city and rural areas hardest, he said." (From the NY Times link above)
Kinda sad kinda funny. Might just inspire humilty in the rest of us too.
