I just saw this:
http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=top+10+grunge+songs&search=Search
a ranking of the top 10 grunges songs of all time. My vote has to go to Smells Like Teen Spirit. Not necesarilly my favorite but it had the greatest influence. Rate your favorite or favorites here.

(side thought, I wonder if bringing the Cheerleaders into The Smells Like Teen Spirit video has anythig to do with Kim Deal's past)

Grunge...what a lame buzzword, hahaha.

I Wanna Be Your Dog by the Stooges, now there's a grunge song.

Any song from the first U-Men EP.

This is the lowest form of socializing.

"Would?" by Alice In Chains

My life is dirt but you seem to make it cleaner... reduce my felony to a misdemeanor

That's true! Awestruck is the first person I knew (or noticed) who wore Converse sneakers.
awestruck Posted - 11/06/2007 : 18:00:24
I still wear my flannel shirts around my house, because nothing beats a good worn out flannel shirt. I still have my
denim jacket, too. I recently acquired some new converse shoes, but I owned a pair years ago when I was in high school.

kfs and I go way back and we have some great memories. We reminince from time to time about "old times." :)

It's not you I don't like

Yep, I've got my share of old grunge pics; real long hair, denim jacket, plaid shirts and converse shoes!

"Goodyear?" "Nah, the worst!"
kfs Posted - 11/06/2007 : 12:05:28
I don't really have a favorite grunge song but I used to like "grunge fashion."
I recently saw an old pic of me wearing a plaid flannel shirt. It's kinda funny, I'll try to find it tonight.

My favorite grunge song is Neil Young's "Hey Hey, My My". As far as I know it's also the first grunge song ever recorded.

an undisclosed number of visitors can't be wrong

I think Grunge was first a Northwest thing, but a lot of similar artists around the country with similar sound and style like Dinosaur Jr. and Bob Mould, gained more popular sucess at the same time. So I think they are definately associated with Grunge.
fbc Posted - 11/06/2007 : 10:16:17
I'm not sure about it being grunge but you're spot on about the brilliance. Man On The Moon is one of my favourite closing tracks.
OLDMANOTY Posted - 11/06/2007 : 09:29:42
Does Sugar's Copper Blue count as grunge? If it does, that's my fave album (and Beaster). The Act We Act, A Good Idea and Fortune Teller are brilliant songs.
awestruck Posted - 11/05/2007 : 19:36:08
I can't say that I have a favorite, but this brings back memories from high school. Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, and Nirvana...too many songs to pick just one. Pearl Jam and Alice in Chains are two of my favorite bands.

I don't know if anyone here would consider it "grunge" (cause it's not from Seattle) but I loved Smashing Pumpkin's "Gish." It seemed much more influenced by the hard rock genre than their later albums. They kind of got out of that style early on in their musical careers.

Yeah, Gish is great, and Dirt is also pretty top hole. Bleach is another grungy treat. I actaully haven't hear any of their albums, but I love this:

MUDHONEY- GOOD ENOUGH.

(I have the 7" of Suck You Dry, actually!)

"Goodyear?" "Nah, the worst!"

Late 80's, Early 90's rock from the Northwest (Seattle), basically gets counted.
treetime Posted - 11/04/2007 : 21:18:21
Mudhoney definately gets categorized as grunge, so yeah, "Touch Me I'm Sick" counts.
WolfManMikeLonely Posted - 11/04/2007 : 19:45:01
Does "Touch Me I'm Sick" count?

I LOVE Dinosaur Jr. J and Frank knew each other I think.

You're the bees knees but so am I.
treetime Posted - 11/04/2007 : 10:17:19
Yeah, they are from Mass. Are you fan of theirs? I think I remember hearing J. Mascis thought the Pixies were a pop band.
mr.biscuitdoughhead Posted - 11/04/2007 : 10:10:04
they're from Massachusetts, right?

in my opinion, "alternative" isn't even a real genre. it's just sort of a general term.

I think they kind of fit the mold of Grunge, but they weren't from the region, Wikipedia calls them "Alternative".
mr.biscuitdoughhead Posted - 11/04/2007 : 09:57:37
what about dino jr?

I loved Nevermind and "Smells Like Teen Spirit" when I was a teenager. But I don't know if the day will ever come for the rest of my life when I am happy to hear "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on the radio. Is it possible to get permenantly sick of something forever and never get over your sickness of it?

I really liked Alice in Chains "Dirt," although the WHOLE album is pretty stifling in its depression. But hey, that was perfect for us angsty teenagers back then.

According to Wikipedia "With the lead single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from their 1991 album Nevermind, Nirvana entered into the mainstream, bringing along with it a subgenre of alternative rock called grunge."
