does anyone else get a kick out of a movie just because of the way it ends?
i was thinking this after watching Dr. Strangelove again. it's a great movie, not my favourite, but the ending is brilliant.
(don't click if you haven't seen it whole yet! really. go rent it. it has some juicy info on water fluoridation, if nothing else)

as a schoolkid i was quite impressed by "If....", particularly its ending. nowadays i think i like the tiger scene more. and i LOVED the Missa Luba in there. i must get me the soundtrack of that.

Better ending in the new one then. It's important to teach kids that crime does in fact pay if you are smart enough.

I haven't seen the original, as it is supposed to be pretty poor.

I'd also like to add the original Planet of the Apes, Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Game.

i'd say both

Me too. Certain others I know cry only at sad bits in films, and this one sends them weeping. I think it's equally happy.

The Sopranos, last episode of season 3, when Uncle Junior is singing.

I can't really remember but I feel like Rambo movies have cool endings.

the ending of KISS ME DEADLY is pretty great

and Fassbinder's LOVE IS COLDER THAN DEATH

those are my 2 obscure, pretentious contributions

Harold and Kumar, when they finally get to eat those burgers, and NPH pays for the meal. That worked out great for everyone, and made me feel like everyone was full and happy.

I loved the ending of Pirates of the Caribbean 2. I love Johnny Depp and can't wait to see Sweeny Todd.

Saw...now that was an ending that I just did not see coming.

It's not you I don't like

Last night I was reading "The all important ending", an essay over a TCM's Movie Morlocks blog. Not saying I agree or not, but I did find it interesting.

excerpt:

"The feeling we have when we exit the theater is inescapable, and our opinion about what we just spent two hours experiencing may be unfairly biased, positively or negatively, because of how it ends.

"The plot can be compelling, the acting can be exceptional, but if the whole thing peters out at the end, we’re disappointed. It seems clear that its writers ran out of ideas, couldn’t figure out how to finish their story, and/or the director couldn’t either. In the days when the production (e.g. morality) code was enforced, certain endings weren’t even possible. For example, the bad guys couldn’t get away with murder and loose women had to be punished (or die) before the closing credits rolled."

I thought it was excellent all the way through.

I watched Dog Day Afternoon last night, and all the way I was thinking there could be a great twist coming at the end.

Shame it was based on a true story.

It'll probably sound geeky, but the end to "Blade Runner". Also, "American Beauty." But both these movies were awesome all around, not just the ending.

I hasn't really digging batman begins too much, until that last scene where gordon gives batman the joker playing card. I also really dug the return of Barbossa in the last scene of pirates of the caribbean 2.

The ending was about the only good part of "Phantasm."
