Perhaps you've already seen the story about poll results claiming Philadelphia is home to the least attractive people in the US?

Reuters -- Are you fat, ugly, lazy, unstylish, unworldly and unfriendly? If the answer is yes then move to Philadelphia -- you'll feel right at home. The city of more than 1.5 million came bottom of a long list of positive features according to the "America's Favorite Cities" survey of 60,000 people by Travel & Leisure magazine and CNN Headline News, according to a survey of visitors and residents.

About 60,000 people responded to the online survey, which ranked 25 cities in categories including shopping, food, culture, and cityscape, said Amy Farley, senior editor at the magazine.

For unattractiveness, Philadelphia just beat out Washington DC and Dallas/Fort Worth for the bottom spot. Miami and San Diego are home to the most attractive people, the poll found.

The results don't mean people in Philadelphia are ugly or the city is a bad place to visit. "We were asking people to vote on attractiveness, not unattractiveness. Travel & Leisure editors believe there are a lot of attractive people in Philadelphia," she said. "The relative attractiveness of its residents is only a minuscule factor in evaluating a city's merit."

Being enlightened forumites, we know better than to judge people (or entire cities) on attractiveness. But I do find this survey fascinating, especially because I live in a city that's renowed for its fashion sense yet I've never been visually assaulted by confusing sartorial choices the way I do living here.

What is your town known for and does it live up to that claim to fame? Even been to a place that's fugly? (No Barstow jokes, please.)

Nothing? Not even bunion-infested feet growing where their noses should be?

there are gorgeous women in Austin. There's also a lot of hippies. Great - more power to you - but there is nothing more ugly on a woman.

now here's the thing that will really spin your head around - is when you come across a really hot hippie chick with hairy armpits. I knew a girl like this and my head just about exploded trying to get around it. this girl had the absolute greatest butt that I have EVER seen - even now 10 years later I can still picture it. She had an awesome body - and a real cute face to go with it -

but those armpits!!! just the sight of the armpits was a turnoff enough - but then it also made you think about what must be going on down in the lady garden

Damn, I misread the question. Unattractive people, huh? I haven't been in Philadelphia for more than about 10 minutes, but yeah, I'd agree. Very unattractive populace.

Qu'ils aillent se faire foutre <-- yeah, what he said.

What qualifies as a "city"? I would go with every fucking city that has a multiplex with a Wal-Mart, Starbucks, Jamba Juice, Office Depot, Home Depot...you know pretty much what every city in the USA has turned into?

At least Philly has some history.

Manchester nowadays is known for the greatest football team in the world (Manchester United), and it's gun crime. We are still known for our music too, even though we haven't produced a great band in years.

I was under the impression that Dallas/Ft. Worth had a reputation for having attractive people. Lots of those TV reality shows do scouting for weasels to appear on them here.

In college, I worked a data entry job for awhile that required me to look at scans of people's driver's licenses and type in information from them. The licenses were grouped together by state. One day, you'd do Arizona, the next day you might do Oregon, etc. The WORST looking license pictures, in my opinion, were typically from Indiana. Some of those people were monsters. The best-looking people were in the California and Texas batches, I thought.

People are fat in Michigan. But, in my experience it seems like in the US people get fatter as you go towards the Southeast. So, I nominate Georgia for the ugliest state.

Did I just get another one? You know, I finally got over my obsession with my post count and my bees, and I hadn't even noticed. Still, I am aware that I am close to being on the first page of forum members.

I always wondered if there was a correlation between cold weather and fat. I know that we put on more fat naturally in the cold, but I also think there's a psychological factor - people try to look good for the warmer months and let go for the cooler ones and eventually just get too behind on looking good for the summer.

Dallas being at the top list ought to refute that theory.

I'm surprised that Dallas/Ft Worth would be right at the bottom of the list. As far as the attractiveness of the citizens: women are overall very hot, much hotter than most northern cities. I guess I don't help the median scores of the males very much, but that can't have skewed the numbers that much. Now when you add the right-wing conservatism of much of the population, maybe THAT's what contributed most to the unattractiveness. That and most prople just hate Texans because many are such idiots. And Kennedy got killed here. And big Dallas hair does suck.

I'd rather be anywhere or doing anything

Whenever I think of Philadelphia I recall its old Veterans Stadium being described as stinking of urine, allegedly due to a shortage of restrooms, and, in its defense, perhaps only on a warm day.

Colorado Springs has great, well, springs. Good place to swim, especially outdoors in winter if that's your thing.

Plus the people are obnoxiously beautiful Colorado mountain types.

New Yorkers *are* friendly. The rudest motherfuckers? Athens, Greece. Total pigs.

It must have been the people, because the city is idyllic. It's as pretty as any I've ever seen.
