Posted - 10/19/2007 : 21:07:58 A really good friend is spending the night and she won't stop talking and moving in her sleep. She's sleeping clear across the house and I can hear her gabbing away unintelligibly and a few minutes ago I was scared out of my wits thinking she'd started walking around asleep.
This is horrifying, people!
I am too scared to walk all the way there and nudge her awake or whatever I should do. She's slept over several times over the years and has never done this spooky shit.
Suggestions?
I hate this.

my friends and i have tried to administer that trick on several occasions but never successfully
Yeah a friend of mine tried it a few years ago on another friend a couple of times. He kept waking up though.
Well, it didn't work when it was tried on me. Just really pissed me off.

seems a bit weird that you're relieved that she had to go to hospital and has pneumonia!
benji, you misunderstood my post. It has totally freaked me out and ruined my Sunday that an overnight guest who spent time in my bathroom/kitchen, etc. had pneumonia. Wait till you and Mrs. benjy take your little girl to the big bad germ-filled world out there. This woman was hugging my child and touching my cutlery and hours later was diagnosed with pneumonia. Call me uncaring, paranoid, whatever but it would suck big time if she got my kid sick.
Heywood, I like how you did that. That was good.

You really shouldn't allow people like this in your home, especially when they are sleeping over.

Posted - 10/21/2007 : 04:32:53 She wasn't just talking, she was, like, moving around and acting all awake while asleep. Very weird. And she hadn't had anything to drink or taken any medicine or drugs. It was sooo weird and I'm embarrassed to bring it up.
Oh great! She just emailed to say that she got really sick after leaving my house and went to the emergency room where she was diagnosed with pneumonia and is now on antibiotics. So, how do I make sure that my kid and I didn't catch her friggin pneumonia? Arrhggh.

Posted - 10/20/2007 : 23:01:32 Well that's what I've heard (the hand in water thing - it's supposed to be a practical joke for immature people to make them pee their pants). It's probably just an urban myth.
Anyway I don't want to make fun of something if it's really serious. Did you ask her if she knows she talks in her sleep? I think I would want to know. Maybe she already knows about it and isn't concerned.
If it is Ambien+Alcohol, there have been many stories of people doing strange things - those drugs don't mix.

Jefrey, do I want to know what happens when you put a sleeping person's hand in warm water? I'm gonna guess something related to urination.

Posted - 10/20/2007 : 02:20:08 Maybe it wouldn't be a good idea to wake her suddenly. She's never done this before? Probabaly nothing to be alarmed about, surely everyone has crazy talking-in-sleep episodes at some time! |
