I'm always on the lookout for new music, and when I hear something I like I write it down and form a list of bands/artists to check out, here are the top ten on my list where I've only heard one or two songs, any thoughts would be appreciated:
1. Vampire Weekend
2. Gentleman Auction House
3. Oliver Future
4. Tokyo Police Club
5. Fourth Of July
6. Arizona
7. Office
8. Lemur
9. Stereo Total
10. Axe Riverboy

I was recently saying something about Jonah and the Whale, and I accidentally said "Noah" instead. I guess that's not an unusual mistake.

I'm always open to discovering new music, but I rarely find out about anything new on my own. Mostly I stick to new releases by bands I already like.

Broken Social Scene's support band on Wednesday night were pretty good. They were called Noah and the Whale.

Kind of The Decemberists meets Neutral Milk Hotel live.

I was all excited viewing active topics and seeing this thread. ThoughtI was gonna get a few more gems to listen to instead of banter. I'll just pretend it's between songs at a show I guess.

Oh, and your counting sucks as badly as mine, floop. A couple means two.

It is ashame about bigfoot really, what a grand topic! Any other cryptozoological taboos?
Brackish Posted - 10/18/2007 : 16:53:13
One local SF band I really like is The Chop. Their CD Gold Stars is worth buying, although I got mine for free via the old "go to their show and bring 'em a free copy of your own CD and wait for them to offer you a free copy of theirs" ploy. Suckers, I would've paid!

And thanks for the mention JediRoller!

"New Romantic" by Laura Marling has to be one of the best songs of this year.

Sorry to hear that didn't work out for you, I guess this thread will share a similar fate. Appreciate the We Were Lovers recommendation, but as I'm currently connected at 16.4 Kbps, I'll bookmark it and give it a looksy another evening when I'm firing on all cylinders.
Ktistec.Machine Posted - 10/16/2007 : 17:39:40
Jediroller, I have marked those bands down on my list, and appreciate the recommendations. You make a valid point regarding "new" I guess that is a subjective term, overall I was looking for up and coming artists, though feel free to suggest anything because something old could be new to me.
Ktistec.Machine Posted - 10/16/2007 : 17:35:17
Two Reelers, I'll definitely check out Souled American, thanks for the recommendation.

I heard that track and was really digging it picked up the EP "Get To The River Before It Runs Too Low" and it wasn't bad, but I didn't think the other tracks were as good as "You're A Wolf." Doubtful I'll pick up the LP.

Actually I mean what I say, the area I live in is pretty rural, after all I live here and you don't, but you and floop do raise an interesting point about the disappearing rural areas in most of the 48 continental U.S. If I gauge the way I've seen the local farm land decimated it won't take long until I do live in a suburb versus a small rural city in a small rural county.

I know some of us are, but not many.

I'm glad I could do that for you though Kathryn.

That's not true, Homers. My life has been blessed by much new music recommended by just the last two posters alone (you and Mike 1 -- or are you Mike 1 and he's Mike 2? You get my point, though).

Happy hearts fall from my shaking hands

Sadly in my experience, this forum has limited interest in new music, unless it comes from Frank of course.

SOULED AMERICAN, i say. a reunited (never split?) old band.

i bet they have no myspace-page. even their homepage (www.souledamerican.com) is not very invitating. but the music is terrific.

I joined the cult of Souled American / 'cause they are a damn' fine band

Or French people.

I don't know what defines "new", but I'll list stuff that I'm into now that is not "famous" in any way. It'll do.

• Paul Mosley - British indie folkster of tremendous talent, and a beautiful voice
• Warren Teagarden - Our very own "Brackish", a great songwriter, sounds a bit like Gordon Gano at times but without the whiny factor, his EP is a blast!
• Pretty Balanced - Artsy piano-&-strings pop outfit influenced by Regina Spektor and Dresden Dolls, mucho lovely
• BILL - experimental rock band with a pretty unique frontman, comparisons with David Thomas have been made

Awesome! I fuckin' shot this!

Remig, Thanks for the recommendations I'll add them to my list. I live in a rural Virginia and am existing on dial-up so myspace pages, I've found most of them stream the songs and that just isn't worth my time when I'm connected at 28.8 Kbps at the moment, in all honesty at that speed downloading a sample is barely worth my time.

I was hoping this post would serve as a way to separate the wheat from the chafe with some help from people who I know have good taste in music as we all share a love of Charles's music.

Axe Riverboy is good, worth listening his first CD. I've seen him live once as Axe Riverboy but 4 or 5 with his band Tahiti 80 (different but great too. And his a very very nice guy.
Speaking of french bands, you might also check out Fugu, who works sometimes with Xavier Boyer (Axe Riverboy). Great pop music, for Beach Boys, Steely Dan, Mc Cartney lovers.
For something more Rock n'Roll and still French, there's the Hushpuppies too.
I've seen all these bands live and bought their CD.

PS: All these bands have myspace pages. I won't give you any link.
