Posted - 09/06/2007 : 16:11:37 I'm going to post some of the great documentaries I've seen in this thread.
I would like to discuss some topical issues without inflaming people hemorrhoids. I won't hammer the forum anymore. Maybe once or twice week I'll post a flick or two. I'll do my best to stay away from the more controversial stuff.
If anyone else has something worth seeing please post.

Posted - 09/12/2007 : 15:00:55 Would you PLEASE, PLEASE spell "documentaries" right in th etitle of this thread?! It infuriates me to no end when people misspell words! I received a letter from my brother the other day and he had SIX MISSPELLINGS and FOUR INCORRECT USES OF PUNCTUATION in it and I sent it back, because this is an asshole way to be and I don't want him to think that it's all okay and I will tolerate that shit.

Posted - 09/07/2007 : 14:14:19 OK a little sleep and I have a list.
I do have Ken Burns' Jazz, and on related notes... Did anyone see that documentary broken into half-hour segments? It was also recycled for shows on individuals. It does a strange thing to my brain to see things that are almost, but not quite as I remember.
PBS, how I love thee. Jazz and Photography, best friends in one package. Keeping Time, The Life and Photographs of Milt Hinton.
A Great Day In Harlem with the classic line "Most of those guys didn't know there were two 11 O'Clocks in one day."
The whole American Experience series, especially the ones about dead presidents, (and a nod to the History Detectives, "watchin' the detectives, oooh" which by all rights should run a full season).
I really almost universally dislike reality tv shows (excepting the ones about motor vehicles), but there is one that straddled the chasm to documentary called Tall Ship Chronicles, which follows the sailing ship the Picton Castle on an around-the-world journey. Sadly the ship was in the news this year. Sadly, the focus of the doc is now host of both Canada's Worst Handyman and Canada's Worst Driver, with no sign of a girlfriend.
Under the header of haven't seen, but want to, at TIFF, which is how all the cool papers are calling it, Guy Maddin has a lament for my home town. And finally, a few years ago NFL films came to record the Grey Cup, I would kill to see what became of that footage. Got Milt? |

Posted - 09/06/2007 : 22:36:27 If I spend a little more time I will come up with some.
The one I can remember right now, if space exploration interests you, is Rocket Science (not the movie by the same name). You can pick it up really cheap! It's 6 or 7 parts, lots of footage and features the voice of Graham Greene, who sounds just like a famous narrator.
It's basically the story of NASA.
This is the only excerpt I could find, it seems a little slow.

Posted - 09/06/2007 : 18:26:25 I had net flicks but went through periods where we would watch a bunch of flicks then periods where I'm too busy.
Besides google video is where it's at. I have a 20 inch monitor and it's free. I've seen too many to list on here.
Just watch the movies I post or I'll go all Youtube on your asses.
Pacify the beast.

Posted - 09/06/2007 : 17:16:40 There are a few links pertaining to it on google etc. I don't have cable so I either have to buy or watch these on the computer. I do buy many documentaries though I'll look into these.
Just finished watching "The War on Democracy" by John Pilger. It is an excellent film.
Many of these google films you can download as mp4 and burn onto dvd.
