Posted - 08/21/2007 : 12:19:15 I can't stop thinking about Miles Davis. He is amazing, and I can't wait until the On the Corner boxset comes out.
Although, I've never heard On the Corner, I here it is freaky.
So I'm going to pay a cash wad for this 6-CD boxset, and I'm going to enjoy the fuck out of it, especially since my novel will be finished by then. You have no idea how stressful it is, trying to finish this crazy fucking novel. YEAHH!!! Soon I will be FREE!!!!

Posted - 09/19/2007 : 13:01:13 Hey is anyone going to scope out this "On the Corner" boxset action? I think the release date was pushed back by a week, but it'll be six hours of mind-fuck goodness, if you're into that sort of thing...

Posted - 08/23/2007 : 20:28:06 I don't really know that much, but they're really very different. If you know them, you can't mistake them for each other.
Miles Davis = space and cool Dizzy Gillespie = technically a much better trumpet player (faster, more range), always swings, always driving, more the descendant of Louis Armstrong than Miles Davis |

Posted - 08/23/2007 : 19:57:29 Your posts proves my all around ignorance about jazz. I coudda sworn you were a Miles Davis fan but you're more of a Dizzy Gillespie fan. I can't tell the difference.

Posted - 08/23/2007 : 19:20:43 I'm not that big of a Miles Davis fan. I only have Birth of the Cool, Kind of Blue, Porgy and Bess, Sketches of Spain, and Bag's Groove. I like those albums. I need something with Bill Evans and Miles (maybe he's on Kind of Blue- I looked it up, he is). I'm more of Dizzy Gillespie fan. |

Posted - 08/23/2007 : 04:50:37 I have a friend who has loads of Davis. On some of his live recordings, he's very generous about letting the other musicians jam away, while he just interjects every now and again!

Posted - 08/21/2007 : 15:16:12 I'm totally not into jazz/trumpets/saxophones etc. but I really liked Miles' improvising on the Ascenseur pour l'echafaud (Elevator to the gallows) soundtrack. Is there a Miles Davis record that sounds similar?

Posted - 08/21/2007 : 12:53:46 ESP is the first record with Miles' second "classic" quintet (Miles, Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams). Its a pretty great album. I prefer MILES SMILES, but its pretty close.
A TRIBUTE TO JACK JOHNSON was comissioned by a filmmaker making a documentary about the boxer Jack Johnson (not the lame mellow rocker). Miles did the soundtrack. The original album is 2 tracks - the "Complete Sessions" box set is 4 discs, i think. Very funky, very cool.
