What are your favorite bands that have broke through in the past 3-5 years?

also the new kevin drew album "spirit if..." is really good.

Yeah I got hold of some of their stuff over a year ago now, but I can't remember what I thought of it all. There was one really good song that made me check them out, but I don't remember thinking as highly of the rest of it.

Homers, have you heard of Someone Still Love You Boris Yeltsin?

Haven't had the opportunity to see Tapes live, but want to. Saw them on London Live not too long ago, and it was nice indeed.

Live acts in the past year that have been stellar to watch: FBF (of course), Neko Case (that voice - man oh man), Moz (yes, he's 48 now, but he's still entertaining as fuck to watch) and Death Cab for Cutie. I wasn't expecting much from the Death Cab gig, but they were fantastic live.
Homers_pet_monkey Posted - 08/29/2007 : 13:59:52
They are very good live too. Can't wait for another album.

Homer's Pet - Tapes n Tapes are fucking incredible. Agree with most of your picks, actually. "Cowbell" by Tapes n Tapes is one of my favorites. "I've been a better lover with your mother," he says. Nice.

I would add The Avett Brothers. Maybe I'm partial since they're from my hometown, but they are insanely good. Download "Paranoia in Bb Major." Great stuff. Any album you get is great, and their live shows are even 10x better.

shout out louds, mothertruckers! yeah, them and the yeah yeah yeah's. remember it was bands THAT HAVE BROKEN THROUGH! stop mentioning bands i've never heard of and making me have to add them to a list and then liking them and then having to buy the album and then spending my way into the poorhouse. ugh.

The waxworks were an immensely eloquent dissertation on the wonderful ordinariness of mankind.
mr.biscuitdoughhead Posted - 08/24/2007 : 16:15:30
actually, section b7, rule #526: "no mentioning your own band in the 'new bands' thread". it's all in the fine print in treetime's post.

ok, i have it now.

judging from the first few songs, "random spirit lover" doesn't sound as good as "shut up i am dreaming".

my view... wolf parade = best spencer krug project.

Do they all sing on different songs on the album?

How did I miss The Shins?

Pilsbury, Swan Lake are made up of a member of Wolf Parade, The New Pornographers/Destroyer, and Frog Eyes (Spencer Krug, Dan Bejar and Carey Mercer). I think you may like them.
