Three different bands... The Godz, The Fugs and the Holy Modal Rounders. I have nothing by any, just heard a few songs. Anyone a fan? Got recommendations on starting points. I love the tracks I've listened to from Godz 2 but the first is said to be better. Let me know!

Have you been listening to Jeff Lewis' "History of Punk on the Lower Eastside From 1950 to 1975"?

Well, it's hard to believe these guys were pretty much the same scene as the Velvet Underground.

I had the Fugs Second Album. Sort-of an immature, politicized Moondog. (IMO, don't bother.)

The Holy Modal Rounders were a bit more interesting. "Bird Song" is definitely their most well-known track (featured in Easy Rider).

I'd start with their 4th album, "The Moray Eels Eat The Holy Modal Rounders," then jump back to their 3rd ("Indian War Whoop").
