Ian Mcshane as Al, the best tv performance/character of all time? Granted I've only seen the first season but from the sounds of it, it only gets better. Fantastic television with almost perfect casting bar Bullock (perhaps). Why do stupid american cable companys cancel all the best programmes?

Posted - 07/18/2007 : 12:42:17 Three seasons where made, and then HBO deceded not to pick up the actor's options for the fourth, which is weird, because unlike the first and second season, three ends with much unresolved. Milch has another show on HBO currently airing, John from Cincinnati, which is very strange and seems to week by week alternate from being amazing to terrible to amazing again. Because of some fan outrage, HBO offered Milch a short, 6 episode season of Deadwood to wrap things up, but he turned it down, opting to instead make two two hour TV movies. The reason he gave is that the format of the show is each episode is a single day, which wouldn't readily lend itself to a short season, but TV movies could have a different format and better accomplish the job. As of now, the sets are still standing and the wardrobe packed, but reports say its very doubtful that the movies will very be made.
Malax, Swearengen gets so much better. By season two he's the hero of the show.
Milch wrote a great book about the series that I highly recommend
