Posted - 06/12/2007 : 19:37:18 anybody got one? my wife and i just bought a frankensteined ccm with a huge basket and a comfy seat but i don't like the way it rides, she has shorter legs than me. i'm thinking of buying one of these:
except in blue, there is a used (very slightly, no signs of wear) one at the store we bought the other one at for $350. just wondering if anybody ever went all out and got one then ended up storing it after the novelty wore off. i don't think i would do that now that i live in the city and we only have one car, it kind of makes sense to get one. also, these ones look pretty rad(but are in the $500-$600 range):

I wouldn't mind a BMX sometimes, but generally only twats who wear their pants down their ankles seem to ride them these days, it just wouldn't be very appropriate for someone who doesn't want to look like a twat. I love my mountain bike anyway... I'd just get a mountain bike... they have low gears for when you can't be bothered to go fast too y'know... I do quite like the retro look of some of those though.
wait, just looking again... those bikes have no brakes? What happens when you're going downhill? You die? wtf...
Live and let live
Yeah I know what you mean, but why should I let those 'twats' stop me from having one. They just look better than any other bike.

Posted - 06/15/2007 : 23:52:55 I bought a cruiser about two years ago. It's great for getting around town.
Well, it's great if you live on the Virginia coast and never see more than one or two good hills.
My bike (A Madwagon):
My daughter loves 'cause it reminds her of Pee-Wee's bicycle.

Probably old style coaster brakes. Apply backward pressure on the pedals and you eventually bring the rolling mass to a stop. |

Posted - 06/13/2007 : 04:27:44 The last one is very nice indeed. I don't believe I have seen these bikes over here.
I want a BMX, but I am too big for them.

Posted - 06/12/2007 : 20:04:29 the del sol i'm considering has a 3-speed internal hub. i'd say it weighs a good 25-30 pounds.

Posted - 06/12/2007 : 20:02:43 yeah i had a $2000 mountain bike that was stolen last summer from our "secure" lock-up. part of the appeal of the cruiser bike is it is cheaper, heavier and less likely to get stolen imo. and i don't really want to go rippin' around town, i'd like to enjoy the scenery in my old age.

Posted - 06/12/2007 : 20:02:18 I don't get it either, but then I live for riding uphill.
I often see a John Deere cruiser parked outside my building at work. About every tenth time I walk by, I have to give it a little lift by the seat. The damned thing must weigh close to 50 lbs. |

Posted - 06/12/2007 : 19:55:10 My uncles-in-law all do the Iron Man. One of them has a $10,000 bike. $10,000! I can pick it up with one finger.

Posted - 06/12/2007 : 19:50:14 I don't really understand the attraction of buying a heavy bike with only one gear, but they're popular on the campus where I work. If I needed to buy a bike just for cruising around town, I would prefer spending maybe $50-75 bucks on an old Peugeot road bike. |
