Posted - 06/13/2007 : 04:21:52 Even though people like Ted Nugent-who at least seems to hunt responsibly-get my back up a bit, I do respect the vast difference between people who'd happily hunt without any concern for the survival of species and those who are more responsible, and probably have a better knowledge of the environment and animals than a lot of people. As much as I feel uncomfortable with hunting, it's seemingly less cruel in general than the slaughterhouse.

Posted - 06/12/2007 : 22:01:23 for the record, i don't condone the killing of white rhinos.
that being said, what is the motivation for these poachers to kill these animals just for their horns? money? if so, is it for their "pleasure spending" or survival?
i'm pretty much looking for answers while doing very little actual research.

Posted - 06/12/2007 : 19:21:28 how very sad...
"There were also two White Rhinos in Livingstone, Zambia (in the Mosi-o-tunia zoological park). They were both poached during the night of June 6th, 2007. One was shot dead and dehorned not far from the gate and the other received serious bullet wounds."

Posted - 06/12/2007 : 18:53:08 That's a lot of mistakes. So, the poachers only want the horns? Sad.

"In 2001 it was estimated that there were 11,670 white rhinos in the wild with a further 777 in captivity worldwide, making it the most common Rhino in the world."
Does anyone know if the number has gone down since then? Or are they, like, just almost 'extinct' in Zambia?

Posted - 06/12/2007 : 13:00:54 i sure hope the last remaining one is female and pregnant(and now protected). why wouldn't the last two be in captivity in order help propagate and then return to the wild? where did you read about this?
