Anyone come across this "genre" of music? I found out about it for the first time last weekend on a cable radio station and it just made me feel old.

It's surely not daring, but it's tolerable.
I swear to God there's a station Live105 in the Bay Area that is still playing Alice In Chains. It's a running gag - we turn to it like once per year, and I swear on my poodle's grave that within 15 minutes you'll hear Alice In Chains. How the fuck do those stations stay in business?

When I recently imported Big Business - Here Come's The Waterworks, it came up with "thinking man's metal" as the genre. Which pleased me thoroughly. |

I've been listening to this format since the ripe age of 26. And yeah, it's not daring or anything, but it's fine for work or whatever, if you're somewhere where everybody has to agree on one station. You just have to pretend that all Dave Mathews Band songs aren't the same one.

triple A has been around a very long time as a public radio broadcast format...at least as long as World Cafe in Philadelphia has been on the air.
Adult-oriented, Album cuts, Alterntive...which means some x-er gets to play REM and maybe slip in Here Comes Your Man every once in a while.
huh... interesting that it's not a new thing...I guess at 33 I am just moving into that "adult" demographic.

I have KFOG on my clock radio. They play a lot of crap, but it's one of the few big stations left that actually lets their DJ's play what they want (they must be independant?). And they play a lot of local musicians and live tracks from show they sponsor. Not a bad station to wake up to.

I worked w/ BCOs Marcus at an AAA station in Vt. He's a damn nice fella.
Another fella at the same Vt station is one of the DJs in GTA: Vice City and San Andreas.
I got a cool BLD/DW promo from that place too.
COol place to work, but the music was def. hit or miss.

The staion was playing Feist which I was suprised to fit into the "adult alt" mix...then I had to change the station because I felt old.

It's also called AAA, or adult album alternative. We've got a station near here in Boulder, called KBCO. I like it quite a bit. Never any FB, but it's enjoyable in small enough doses. Another big AAA station is KFOG in San Francisco.
