There's been another upsurge of, let's say, interest in Scientology in this country recently, stemming from this frankly hilarious clip from a recent BBC documentary in which the reporter starts ranting at the Scientology pr guy.

As it turns out, that first clip was the one submitted by scientologists to youtube, pretty much filtering out Tommy the scientologist. The BBC footage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjlo4u_8g60) shows more accurately what went on.

I know someone that on the morning of the TV show received an anonymous presspack declaiming the BBC's reputation. It's all a little scary.

What I really want to know is: has any body here been audited, or even done the questionnaire? What go on?

I attended a Scientologist wedding once. One of my band mates joined up. It was....interesting. They are very nice people, but once they became Scientologists, that's all their lives were about any more. If you're not into Scientology, it can be quite uncomfortable to feel like you're being recruited all the time.

I don't really see them any more. The Scientology kind of alienated them form their existing social circle I think.

Agreed re. the documentary. It was nothing new whatsoever. Not nearly so fun as the giant crop-circle type things in the paper a couple of days afterwards, anyway. Mmm, mysterious ranches in the desert...

well, I've never done it, and nor do I know anyone who's a scientologist, but I thought that as an exposé the program was pretty poor. That may have been because Scientology withdrew any permission to use material.

While I may be showing my naivety with respect to mainstream religions, I'm fairly sure that advancement in a religion shouldn't be defined by your monetary prowess.

Is the questionnaire online? Maybe we should all do it and get sucked in....
