Posted - 06/22/2007 : 08:04:00 All right. Bonnaroo. It was an awesome time, but I didn't last for more than 48 hours and missed a bunch of cool bands (Flaming Lips, White Stripes...and so on)
But I saw John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin do a SuperJam with Ben Harper and ?uestlove. It was AMAZING. Oh yeah, and I was on LSD at the time. And I met Ben Harper earlier that day.
Lots of heat. Lots of walking. If I go again, I'll have a sweeter campsite so I can do plenty of relaxing before the day begins. I went to bed at 5 a.m. after the Superjam friday night. The sun came up a few hours later, the tent started to roast, my feet were killing me, and I was all like: "No way I can do that again. Fuck this. I have to get out of here."
So we left Saturday morning. If I would've had a joint or some Jager, or an awesome breakfast (how about all three!!) I could have tackled the day with ease.
If you're going to day any indulging (drugs) at all during Bonnaroo, you've got to go all out, anything to ease the pain in your feet and to have more fun. It's a four day party with 80,000 people. It's crazy.
Also, it's good to camp with cool people, but it's best to tackle the actual festival by yourself. This way, no person is tying you down. You can hop wherever you want and meet more people. And you don't have any emotional contagion to reitirate how tired you are. You know what I mean?
Be sure to read the Bonnaroo Beacon every day, so you can get a better idea of what activities to check out and tips on surviving the Roo. I didn't take the time to read the Beacon until days after the festival.
I saw a lot of crazy things there, and I wish I would have had the energy to take on the whole festival. I wish I would have found my buddy Ben because he had special brownies. And I'll be open to going next year because now I know how to do it right. I may even go streaking next time. You know what I mean?
You've got to be adequately prepared, let yourself go (but pace yourself, too), and fucking have fun.
It's too bad that guy died. Ben says it was from the heat. It'd be better to have this festival in the fall.
Some guy sold me bad shrooms (he later got arrested), and I ended up selling them off to some hippie kid for the same price. So I'm glad he didn't die.

Posted - 04/24/2007 : 14:18:41 I have never been but would like to just to see what all the fuss is about. I know someone who did go and they did not have an enjoyable time. cant remember why. Maybe for the same reasons kfs stated.

Posted - 04/24/2007 : 10:39:38 I'm hoping my press passes will alleviate any disagreable aspects of a 4 day fest.

Posted - 04/24/2007 : 10:04:33 I'd love to go but I can't. I've been told that it is hot, expensive, crowded, not fun to camp all weekend, dangerous...
That said...I'd still love to go.
