These are what I consider to be the most accessible tracks in The Fall cannon. It's far from complete as there are still quite a few albums I haven't heard but there's none of the 'unlistenable' stuff here. It's in chronological order as it was the easiest way to do it.

1. Leave the Capitol
2. The Classical
3. Jaw-Bone And The Air Rifle
4. Smile
5. Hexen Definitive/Strife Knot
6. 2x4
7. Copped It
8. Barmy
9. Spoilt Victorian Child
10. Cruiser's Creek
11. R.O.D.
12. Terry Waite Sez
13. Carry Bag Man
14. Kurious Orange
15. Dead Beat Descendent
16. I'm Frank
17. Bill Is Dead
18. Hilary
19. The Littlest Rebel
20. Edinburgh Man
21. You Haven't Found It Yet
22. High Tension Line
23. Rose
24. The Birmingham School Of Business School
25. Free Range
26. Return
27. Time Enough At Last
28. Gentlemens Agreement
29. Service
30. Touch Sensitive
31. Two Librans
32. Dr Buck's Letter
33. Coach And Horses

PS The Classical might not be for casual listeners. I have a friend who found it offensive. iTunes aren't carrying it. Some even found Oliver's Army and Cave's Saint Huck offensive.

Possibly for the line 'Hey there, fuck face! Hey there, fuck face!' Perhaps 'Hey there, ninny face' would be more acceptable?

I have the censored version in which he does sing 'Hey there, ninny face'. No, I meant him using the N-word. Costello and Cave both got in trouble for using it in less dramatic ways.

Must admit I haven't heard I Am Damo Suzuki in years so maybe I'd feel differently now. And I didn't realise the drumming was maybe a kind of tribute/pastiche. I'm going to dig it out and listen.

I like that list, but Paintwork should be included, and Wings.

Er...I ADORE "I am Damo Suzuki", and the drums are spot on - listen to Can's "Mushroom" from the Tago Mago lp and you'll see where they lifted it from...

It's true I've heard far less of their stuff. Them taking the piss is a strong part of the appeal for me. I love the candy too: nearly anything off Extricate, Kurious Oranj, Wonderful and Frightening World Of...,

To add to a primer, any of these
Black Monk Theme Pt.1
And therein...
Tempo House
LA off Seminal Live
New Big Prinz
Wrong Place, Right Time
Overture from "I Am Curious, Orange"
Stephen Song
My New House
I'm Into CB
Industrial Estate

Well, there's a lot of Fall stuff I just can't stomach that makes me think they're just taking the piss. It's just spectacularly bad. Perfect example: I Am Damo Suzuki off This Nations Saving Grace. Fall fanatics seem to like this but to me it's hideous, boring and the drums are comically out of synch. And don't get me started on things like Crew Filth or Light/Fireworks. Fall albums are littered with stuff like this.

When I got into The Fall, the only comp was the one with the Step Forward singles. I thought it sucked, filed it away and came back to it two years later. Then I saw the light.

Not me! I'd probably put too much Dragnet on it for most people's taste anyway. I don't know why people aren't so keen on that album.

Me, I love it.

I'm still not getting it. What inaccessible stuff? I can't be that weird. Even Mollusc In Tyrol and Dog Is Life are accessible to me. For more candy see Black Monk Theme and Industrial Estate.

"My new house. You should see my new house". Now that's universal.

PS Nice primer OLDMANOTY

Damn yes! Did it really quickly, wish I'd spent more time on it now. Would anyone care to compile an alternative list?

I think you could pretty much argue the rest of your life away as to what should go on a Fall sampler.

That said, no How I Wrote Elastic Man?

Yeah, C.R.E.E.P., Totally Wired etc - they could be on there. Also Couldn't Get Ahead and Hip Priest; the list could have been a lot longer. And thanks for calling me a 'young man' Mr Cheeseman, much appreciated.

kfs, if you fancy a commercially-available, Fall-sanctioned one, there's also the '50000 Fall Fans Can't Be Wrong' set, which is great. Not to trample on this young man's choices of course, there's a lot of overlap.

Totally Wired and Sparta F.C. are probably the most accessible Fall songs, I reckon.

Where is C.R.E.E.P?

Thank you! I can't wait to try this. I've been thinking about
checking them out for a while!
