Low, from Duluth, MN

I can think of only one other band (Walt Mink, also from MN, but St Paul - also recommended) that upon hearing their music on radio, hearing it for the first time ever (both on radio K, MN college radio station), that I knew immediately who the band was. They are "slow core" as no one else is.

The song was "Words" for any one who is familiar with Low.

And they put on an excellent live show.

some local stuff:
http://www.myspace.com/masonproper
http://www.myspace.com/tallyhall

Tally Hall are actually pretty popular here, and I think they did something for an O.C. soundtrack, so it's not that obscure I guess. I just wish they'd put up Ruler of Everything, Two Wuv, and Welcome to Tally Hall.

Their last two albums, The Runners Four and Friend Opportunity, are amazing. Particularly The Runners Four, which is basically their TOTY.

maybe I'll kick it

Deerhoof? I have 'Milking' it's pretty cool in a zany way.

Really? On record I fucking love them, but I haven't seen them live (and I doubt I ever will). But seriously, their albums are stellar.

Also, I don't seem much Deerhoof love on here, though they're not all that "obscure".

check out R. Stevie Moore on youtube, I'd never heard of it, there's a ton of it, he's a really creative, prolific guy, I don't know how I missed it all these years.

Excellent, excellent!

Hood - I have Cold House and a couple of compilation tracks.

Takemura's "Scope" is beautiful.

Despite having an awful band name, the Sex Clark Five are well work the effort it sometimes takes to find their albums. Kind-of brit-power-pop by way of Alabama.

Malcolm Middleton from Arab Strap has put out three great albums. This is kinda scottish folk / rock- try Into The Woods or A Brighter Beat.
Mia Doi Todd- depressive acoustic stuff with an otherworldly voice. I think she's American / Irish /Japanese.
Anyway hope that helps.

i told Michael about Field Music

jamming good with Weird and Gilly
Jose Jones Posted - 04/19/2007 : 16:27:35
just go to myspace and look up these bands:

paultronics (grandaddy-ish)
the ruby suns (beach boys-y)
christian williams (handsome family-style country/folk)
ultra sonic edukators (super furries/ supergrass like pop rock)
little country giants (gothic country greatness)
the space agency (surf/psychedelic)
m coast (used to be 'marshmallow coast'. obscure enough that i can't find any on soulseek)

Field Music. They're just awesome. Not terribly obscure, but both of their records are top notch start to finish.

Here's an obscure one for you, Voit - The Moon Hour, the posthumous release by the band Grand Theft Canoe, very very good stuff.

It's so rare I don't even think it was released. A friend made me a copy of it. There are only a few passing references to it on the internet.

Not quite as obscure but twice as bizarre (and that site CDBaby is the jackpot) Vav Jungle. http://cdbaby.com/cd/vavjungle2

Also more focused is the Blue Meanies, now the New Meanies, the first track 7620 36th Ave is one of the best things I've ever heard from a local band. http://cdbaby.com/cd/newmeanies2

Current 93, they're not that obscure, I guess, but a lot of people have not heard of them. Their albums All the Pretty Little Horses, Thunder Perfect Mind and Of Ruine or Some Blazing Starre are all excellent. I suppose the genre is neo-folk with some noise overtones.

Hi, uglycasanova, and welcome.

SMG, what sorts of music do you like -- you know, besides Pixies, Frank Black, Black Francis, and Grand Duchy?

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.
