Posted - 03/28/2007 : 10:57:47 iv just watched series 1 and Oh my god it fuckin rocks. i cant believe i didnt see this sooner.its so well written and executed, a little cheesy in places, but that just adds to it. iv got season 2 on the way and wait with bated breath.the cliffhanger, nay, cliffhanger'S are awesome.it was recomended to me by a lost fan but this just tramples all over the increasingly weaking lost.
any other lynch fans here?
does the genius continue into series 2?

Posted - 03/30/2007 : 08:08:10 Watching TWIN PEAKS first run back in 1990 was one of the single most entertaining and amazing things in my life. I know it's just a TV show, but it was part of my life.

Posted - 03/30/2007 : 01:44:07 Honestly, I couldn't get into the TV series. I watched season 1. Too much extraneous plot for me, but then again, I watched Fire Walk With Me first, so I knew the source of Laura Palmer's murder, so I'm not one to judge. There were moments that I liked, in particular Kyle McLachlan's character throwing rocks or whatever at bottles to determine points in the case... but that was the episode directed by Lynch... only episode that really struck me.
I saw some of the first episode in the second season... where the opening goes on for way too long... I liked that.
I love Lynch but Twin Peaks is certainly not where I point my heart. Elephant Man, Eraserhead, Straight Story, Mulholland Drive, Wild At Heart, those are his key works for me... oh, and Blue Velvet... to a degree. I think Blue Velvet would have been much better if he could have delivered the cut he'd filmed as opposed to the cut he was contractually obliged to give... a 2 hour cut. So much seems to be missing from the film... it never really develops as it should have. Kinda like Cameron Crowe's (not a big fan but he's got his moments) Almost Famous. The director's cut made me swoon. The theatrical cut, which I saw in the theatre and numerous times since, seemed very lacking. Once I saw the real version, I knew why I felt unfulfilled. I'd love to see Blue Velvet as Lynch intended. Damn him for tossing out his cut footage.

Lost is just stupid entertainment, TP is Art.

Posted - 03/29/2007 : 14:40:27 I like both lost and twin peaks, but i have to say, at least lost made it past a second season (and it still has the occasional weak episode)

Posted - 03/29/2007 : 12:52:18 season 2, with the exception of the last episode, is not directed by Lynch. Some people had trouble with this, and complained that it got a little off track about half way through the season (which is about 23 episodes long). There were one or two slow, meandering episodes towards the middle, but it picks right up again, and the last few episodes in particular are stunning. I do have a problem with the twin peaks movie, however. that was a disappointment...
i agree that lost sucks. For me, twin peaks and deadwood are the pinnacle of TV drama. six feet under, sopranos, and the wire all deserve honorable mentions too... |
