Any of you ever heard of him?

Newborn baby-icebear of the Berlin zoo. The media is going crazy about him here. And acts like his first steps make the news worldwide.
So I wondered if Knut actually does reach any of you or not.

He IS cute after all.

Those polar bears will kill the shit out of you! Doesn't anyone watch the Colbert Report? They don't really sit around passing around Coca-Colas at CristMASS time, you know. They're some mean bastards if you stray into their territory.

They are cute swimming around in their little polar bear pool at the San Diego zoo, I admit. But you're thinking, "what the fuck is a polar bear doing in San Diego?"

I don't know what it is about polar bears, but people go gaga for them. There were twin polar bears here in Denver about a decade ago that were abandoned by their mother. They were named Klondike and Snow, and I swear they are still two of the most famous "people" in this city's history. Look 'em up on the wiki if you don't believe me.

In my next life, I want to be a polar bear that gets abandoned by its mother.

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

He must do a concept album about Léguman and Téléchat before, he's going to be very busy :/
(well, like often actually)

THE euphoria around Berlin Zoo's celebrity polar bear cub showed no sign of abating overnight as a music label released a single called Knut is Cute.

Pool Music has already sold 3000 CDs priced at just under €6 ($9.95) each but faces tough competition from up to twelve competitors who have been circulating bear-related songs on the Internet.

"I know the number of other songs is growing, but we were first," said a spokesman for Pool Music, who said demand had far outstripped expectations and that the label had received orders from as far afield as the United States and Japan.

"Our song is different because it is sung by the polar bear himself, whereas the other songs are only about him," said the spokesman who declined to divulge the identity of the artist referred to as "Polar Bear".

The company has paid an agreed sum to Berlin Zoo, which registered the celebrity cub as an official brand this week.

I would say as cute as it gets. The media hype about him gets a bit annoying, but everytime I get to see him, I can't help but love the little fella.

As for pictures: I won't have the time for a proper search before the weekend. Sunday probably. But the even tougher task for me will be to post a first picture.
Something you did with your second post or so if I remember correctly...

Bummer. I thought this was a Knut Hamsun appreciation thread. Even if it's not, I recommend his book Pan to everybody.

Having just got back from Berlin (and having been to the zoo last year just to see the polar bears) I've been taking quite a bit of interest in it! Part of me even asked the other night whether or not the whole thing could be a big marketing ploy (getting someone to say the bear should have been put down) to get visitors to the zoo, which it has done. I don't think it is, but it's great my polar friends are getting so much attention!

yeah, was in the media here too, also mentioning Bruno the bear which was some time ago imported to Bavaria from overhere and later made problems killing livestock and escaping the hunters for quite some time (hunters were imported too :) until they finally got him

Heh, everyone who just only so much as thinks about killing him, would put his own life in danger. He is erverybody's darling now, it's hysteric at times.

There was a brief discussion whether or not it would be against animal protection to raise a wild animal, that was abandoned by his mother, by hand. During that discussion some animal rights activist was reported to have said Knut would be better of dead.
