I suppose someone's gotta say it so it may as well be a Mick. Don't get too drunk, now (he said, perpetuating the completely untrue assumtion that alarge protion of the Irish people drink too much)!

When i was in primary school i was told that St Patrick was originally a kidnapped slave from Wales, this would also explain the arrival of cheese toasties in fifth century ireland.

I just think it's weird how even in England Paddy's Day gets more attention than St. Georges does. Any excuse to drink Guiness I guess...

Thanks, I had forgotten how beautiful she is.

By the way "Micks", well done in the cricket.

I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place

the Catalans have their own version of the reptile-bashing saint, a guy called San Jordi who slew a dragon, imaginatively enough. They celebrate by filling the streets with book-stalls and rose-vendors. Girls get roses and boys get books.

No. St. Patrick banished snakes from Ireland, but he fought a dragon. Which is way cooler.

It’s better because I’d rather celebrate a country than a religion. IMHO

"From a Whisper to a Scream" is a pretty good documentary on Irish rock. It got me into Horslips. Werd.

I rarely hear people calling it “saint patricks day” when it comes up in conversation. I get the feeling that this isn't a day about a saint or religion anymore, it's a day about nationality. Which I think is a lot better.

Dumb question: Why are you Irish dudes saying "Paddy's Day" when all I've heard my whole American (and partly Canadian) life is "St. Paddy's Day" (or "St. Patrick's Day"). Why do you drop the "saint"? Not saying anyone's right or wrong, but curious about the dropped word.

Cinco De Mayo is just around the corner, where we all celebrate the victory of Mexican forces led by General Ignacio Zaragoza over the French occupational forces in the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862.
