Or buy it. Why should Scorcese get all his cash (not literally)?

I just saw the Departed, I thought it was great. A little depressing, but really well done. Reading recent (clopser) posts, I know want to see Infernal Affairs. And the Departed sequel with De Niro!

maybe I'll kick it

Which one, the old 'Bureau De Change,' or the Elliot Smith one (changed yesterday)?

The Clopser is certainly back... out of rehab, where he has spent 3 years hiding away in a dark room trying to cure his ten a day wank habit.

I haven't posted for years, but thought that I would drop in and say hello to you all. I hope all is cool on the FB forum.

I can't help but think that if they'd resurrected the late great Freddy Mercury it could have given 'The Queen' a good enough twist to steal Best Film. Sadly, technology these days ain't up to scratch. In fact, The Queen was a good film in terms of acting.... but Babel should have got it, thats the best movie Ive seen in a while.

still haven't seen INFERNAL AFFAIRS but i have it on my netflix list

Mate,

Infernal Affairs is not to be missed... 1 & 2 are brilliant, really gripping stuff. The third one is a throwaway, and not that good at all.

Departed winning Best Picture and Scorcese getting Best Director just sums up the Oscars really. I don't take them seriously. Departed is an inferior copy of IA(1)... IA didn't even win an Oscar, although I believe that it was nominated for Best Foreign Picture back in the day... it just doesn't seem right really.

I would say Babel was a great film in 2006. Anyway, I am off to watch IA and sulk like a baby. Seriously Floop, if you haven't seen this then at least watch 1 and 2... 2 is a bit of a Godfather Part 2 style of movie but possibly better than 1... both are excellent though.

** Just found that they are considering making Departed 2, but not a copy of Chinese IA2, which is a step in the right direction.. apparently bringing back Mark Wahlberg and introducing De Niro **

Cheers

Clopsy

It's a sad state of affairs when a remake of a film made about 5 years ago gets an Oscar... Scorcese, as much as I admire him as a director got this one on a sympathy vote.

Stu, I keep preaching man, but they just 'aint listening.

I agree, it shouldn't have won in my opinion. It's very good, but not the best, and I do think his Oscar should not have come from this film. Sympathy vote indeed.

it's not really about seeing all the films but judging what the hype is. if there is tons of buzz about a film or performance then that's the one that will usually win, even if the film sucked and the hype is constructed by a high-powered marketing campaign ..

there are always surprises though. i can't believe PAN'S LABYRINTH didn't win best foreign film. and i'm surprised Alan Arkin won.

Waahhh!!!

The only Oscar nominated film I saw this year was Little Miss Sunshine on DVD.

and look, it was worth a whole four points to you.

I saw Pirate's. That's it.

I also saw Snakes on a Plane, Miami Vice, Jackass 2, Stranger than Fiction and Talladega Nights. I never got around to seeing Borat, but that was nominated. I would do better in a Razzies® Pool probably. But I still beat Darwin, that's all that counts.
