Posted - 01/19/2007 : 05:10:21 Anyone going?
I am gonna get tickets when I get home.
I was dissapointed at missing out on the ATP Festival in England in May, but as luck would have it, they have their own stage at this festival, featuring much the same acts. All in, it's oging to cost me about £230 for tickets, flights and accomodation (nice apartment in the centre of Barcelona), so it's not going to cost much more than ATP in England (which is obviously a great result).
Confirmed so far for the ATP stage:
"Here there ara the first confirmations for the Estrella Damm Primavera Sound stage curated by ATP. Legendary post rockers Slint wil perform the album Spiderland. Besides them we found artists like Vini Reilly's band The Durutti Column, american emo rock group Built To Spill, Modest Mouse showcasing his new album (with ex Smiths Johnny Marr, who is now a member of them), australian outfit Dirty Three and Low. The hard side of rock will be represented by Isis and Pelican, and the experimental side have artists as Brightblack Morning Light and Grizzly Bear. Also Sub Pop's Band Of Horses, Death Vessel and Oakley Hall are confirmed to play this year's festival, that will take place from May 31st to June 2nd"

On a side note, I had no idea that Johnny Marr was now the guitarist for Modest Mouse.

My god, we can't escape the place. Well at least we would fit right in.
Actually I think we are in Clot. I have the address at home. The apartment is very nice, and it was cheap too.

Interesting, thanks. I wonder how the first collaboration came about then? It just seems a bit random.

Hopefully this article will answer some questions...

Johnny Marr: Meet the New Guy By Trevor Kelley How did a fortysomething stay-at-home dad become Modest Mouse’s newest member? Ten years ago, Johnny Marr was ready to walk away from music. He had spent most of the previous decade playing with the iconic English alt-pop act the Smiths before moving onto Electronic, a dance band he forged with New Order’s Bernard Sumner in the early ’90s. But then, that was it. As Marr says while lounging in the balcony of a club in Manhattan, there came a point where the 43-year-old guitarist says he “found out there was other things in life.”
In turn, he spent most of the late ’90s back in Manchester, raising his son and daughter, who are now both teenagers. In 2001 he formed a new band, Johnny Marr and the Healers, who quickly recorded an underrated Brit-pop album called Boomslang. Following that album’s 2003 release, the Healers completed a brief tour of America and watched as their US label evaporated. Though the Healers began recording a second album in late 2004, at that point Marr says he had once again began leaning toward a quiet life at home.
Yet, shortly thereafter, Brock called Marr and asked him to join Modest Mouse as a permanent member. While he initially had his fair share of hesitations, after receiving some encouragement from his family Marr eventually headed out to Portland and joined the band full-time. “I tried to do other things,” he says of his decision to abandon the spotlight a few years ago. “It just didn’t work. I was around all the time for my kids, which was important, but my wife said to me, ‘What’s happened?’” Marr smiles. “‘This is boring.’”
HARP: About a year ago you received a rather unexpected call from Isaac asking you to join this band. How aware of Modest Mouse were you at that point?
I was aware. Some of the songs that I liked I really liked —“Satin in a Coffin,” “Dramamine.” Obviously “Float On” and a couple of things off The Moon & Antarctica. So I knew what they were about. But I just didn’t think I was at a place in my life where I wanted to pack up and join a band as a guitar player.
HARP: Part of that, I imagine, had to do with leaving your family. You had to relocate to Portland for a while to do this, right?
I was in Portland for a lot of the time, yeah. But my family, luckily for me, is very excited that we have a new record in our lives. That got us through. Both my son and daughter and my wife are really excited [about the new record]. You know, both my kids play?
HARP: Actually, someone told me that your son is a really big Modest Mouse fan.
Yeah, he knew the riff to “Ocean Breathes Salty” before I learned it. [laughs] So that was kind of handy! I am sort of philosophical about being away from home. I was away for a long stretch of time when we were writing the record, but luckily they’re really big fans.
HARP: I also heard that that when you were deliberating over joining the band, your son basically pulled you aside and said, “Dad, you have to do this.”
Well, I’d kind of made up my mind [when that happened]. I was talking to them about being on tour. I was saying, “This record might keep me away next year. What do you think?” And he was like, “What are you even asking me for? It’s Modest Mouse. Go do it.” [laughs] But there was a very symbolic moment when I was driving over to the rehearsals one day. I got attached to a couple of the songs in a big way and I found myself accelerating because I was excited to go and play the song we were working on. I thought to myself, at that moment, “Shit, you’re doing it. You’re getting attached.” They didn’t even know if I was going to be able to make the entire record.
HARP: For a lot of people your membership in this band is sort of surprising. There are some fairly notable differences between the six of you. Aren’t you sort of a health nut?
Yeah, for me it’s no kind of Aerosmith deal or anything. People might think it’s in the interest of being sedate and conservative, but it’s actually the opposite. I’m really intense about it. I don’t have any truck against psychedelics, not in the slightest. I’m not into alcohol and I loathe cocaine. I think it’s really corny and anti-creative. But yeah, I’m very intense about it. It’s not a silly vanity thing.

Posted - 02/22/2007 : 10:56:55 that's a nice enough area in parts, Clot can be beautiful. Glories is down in what used to be called the Manchester of Barcelona, for all the industry in the area. Now they´re sweeping the hippies and old people out at quite a clip to make way for shiny new office blocks (or apartments, it's getting harder to tell the difference).

Posted - 02/22/2007 : 08:47:59 Yeah, i defo agree. It looked quite good at firs,t but it is just really bad timming, and i dot thing they started the voting early enough in order to get the acts people want...
I was really excited about Built To Spill, but as i mentioend before im goig to see them anyway now!
The barcelona one definitely looks better - great line up, great location.

Posted - 02/22/2007 : 05:21:37 Oh right, I don't know but I can;t go to that one because my mates are going with their girlfriends, so they have rooms for two. My girlfriend won't be off school then (she's a teacher).
Thing is, I am glad I am going to this one instead now. I finally get to see Barcelona, and the line-up is better. Nearly all the acts are turning down that ATP vs The Fans one.

Posted - 02/21/2007 : 11:47:37 I'm going to whatever day Mike Patton plays. Jonathan Richman played the modern art museum here last year and the tickets were two euro, praps I'll get to catch him this year. This year might be worth trying the local trick of walking in alone and saying I can't sleep for the noise to get in free.
