Posted - 01/14/2007 : 07:25:37 Saw Robyn Hitchcock last night, was fantastic! Didn't know what to expect as had only heard one song by him and I think it was quite an old one, but it was great! Was strange seeing Peter Buck play guitar in Academy 3 (small venue)... Anyway, anyone recommend an album to start with?

"Underwater Moonlight" is a remarkable (soft boys) album. Recommended.

He does a great spoken-word bit at the end of the Minus 5's "Your Day Will Come." I picked up one of his albums at a used CD store, but it wasn't that great. Someone who'd heard most of his stuff told me that the album I got wasn't one of his better ones (which probably explains why it was being sold used for $5). I'd be interested in hearing more of his stuff, though.

I must say I haven't listened to him in years, but of the older albums, Globe of Frogs and Queen Elvis were both very good. I also had Perspex Island and Eye which I liked, but those first two were maybe a bit better. That being said, I haven't heard any of his newer releases, so I would check out reviews on some of those first. He seems to have really toiled in relative anonymity which is a shame because he is so talented.
