Posted - 10/29/2006 : 21:21:03 Hey FB.netters,
Does anybody else here use lala.com? I just found out about it (and signed up) in the last month, and I've already traded 40 CDs. Basically, you make a Have List of CDs that you have but don't want any longer and make a Want List of stuff that you want (obviously).
Lala then sends you a bunch of prepaid mailers to place your CDs and cover art in, and you send the CDs from your Have List that are requested to the people that want them, and people who have CDs on your Want List ship them to you. So, shipping out CDs is free, and you pay $1.75 for each CD that you receive ($1 processing fee and .75 for shipping). You have to ship CDs to be eligible to receive CDs, but you don't have to have a positive balance all the time. In fact, I received 3 CDs before shipping my first.
I'm very impressed with it, because I've gotten rid of tons of CDs that I didn't want, and so far I've received 16. Just to give you an idea of some of the stuff I've picked up (and what's available), here's the list:
This Mortal Coil - Filigree and Shadow Frou Frou - Details The Black Dog - Spanners The Notwist - Neon Golden Cee-Lo Green - ...Perfect Imperfections Every Lush Album 3 Smashing Pumpkins albums which I didn't have Five Iron Frenzy - The End is Here (& Near) Elton John - Goodbye Yellow Brick Road Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon
Anyway, they have a wide selection of stuff, and I'm looking forward to seeing what is shipped to me next. Try it out, and I'm pretty sure that you'll like it.

Thanks for reading, and I hope that this didn't sound like a cheesy ad. It's so much better to trade CDs here than get ripped off by selling them to a used CD shop or letting them collect dust. Feel free to add me as your friend when you sign up, too.
Cheers, k |

Posted - 10/30/2006 : 07:17:51 Actually, they send you 5 (or 10 if you request) mailers and 5 clamshell CD cases on the day that you sign up, so you don't have to wait to get something in the mail every time you want to ship. After you ship a couple of CDs, you can request more. I currently have 15 unused mailers at my house, so I won't need any for a while. |

It must take long, though, since you have to get the mailers first and then ship. Sort of doubles the ship time. And it seems like they wouldn't make much money that way since the have the actual mailing to do (to you) plus the postage of the mailer.
Still, interesting.
