Posted - 10/22/2006 : 14:42:01 Let's hear some favorites. Here are a few I think everyone should witness at some point or another.
Probably needs no introduction on this forum. But I just saw it recently for the first time and I'd say it's an almost mind scarring film. What the hell was that baby made out of?!
If your into campy horror and endearingly bad acting than this is a must see. In my top five favorite movies ever without a doubt.
This one is downright disgusting. If you've got a weak stomach than I probably wouldn't recommend it. I find it pretty funny but I've seen it with some people who couldn't handle it and left the room. If gratuitous gore is your thing then this'll be right up your alley.
A really great film. Very creepy. Some of the most strangely beautiful lighting and set pieces you'll ever see in a horror film.

Posted - 11/07/2006 : 08:35:34 I watched the documentary "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" over the weekend. That would have been a good one for Halloween. Never even heard of this guy until a friend brought the film over for us to watch. The guy (Johnston) is something else, that's about all I can say. Anyone who turns the engine off in the plane they are on and throws the keys out the window so that the pilot has to crash land the aircraft is definitely uh ...eccentric.

Posted - 10/30/2006 : 19:52:59 Cool. I'll have to check some of these out. The original Halloween is a personal favorite but, you've probably already seen that. |

Posted - 10/30/2006 : 19:28:17 There's only a couple movies that scare me. One of them, and I must recommend for Halloween viewing is THE CHANGELING with George C. Scott and Trish Van Der Veer. Another favorite is DON'T LOOK NOW with Donald Sutherland and Julie Christie. Of course, there's always the great POLTERGEIST...not totally scary, but fun fun fun nevertheless. And on the campy yet strangely creepy side, CREEPSHOW.

Posted - 10/30/2006 : 17:42:59 these are great calls but I didn't see some of my favorites. Glaring omissions: John Carpenter's THE THING, ROSEMARY'S BABY, Rob Zombie's HOUSE OF 1,000 CORPSES, and HAXAN: WITCHCRAFT THROUGH THE AGES--which is on IFC tomorrow.

Yes, yes, yes. Unsung piece of goodness. Frankenstein (Colin Clive) getting a small taste of his own medicine. And Lorre with a shaved head and a few minor delusions. Excellent, excellent flick.
I also recommend Motel Hell and Friday the 13th Part V. Both really good dark horror/comedy.

Posted - 10/23/2006 : 12:37:25 Event Horizon is really good, very scary, not at all what I expected.
I haven't seen it since I was 14, but the 1st Candyman movie really scared me. |

I love that movie! I think it's really witty. I was lucky enough to see this in a theater about 11 years ago. It played before a big appreciative audience, who laughed in all the right spots, and was there to have a good time.
And I disagree about the acting (though I know you said "endearingly", and also I watch lots and lot and lots of b-movies so maybe my concept of "good acting" is screwy). I think Lon Chaney Jr. shows just how underrated an actor he is here. And Jill Banner in this is, seriously, one of the sexiest women I've ever seen in a movie (I guess this means I like crazy women) and there many memorable moments of her performance here, particularly in the scene with the guy tied to the chair.
David Lynch has done lots of weird art with, like, animal parts n' stuff. It wouldn't surprise me if the baby was some kind of unborn animal fetus or something. |

Posted - 10/22/2006 : 18:23:56 A friend got Salem's Lot on DVD, the plan is to watch it on Halloween!
There are a lot of great horror movies to choose from. However, for a real corny treat (or trick?) try Halloween III!
Come on children, gather 'round, and put on your masks!
