I just collected my new glasses yesterday. I normally get new ones every two years, but it had been three years since I got an eye test. Specsavers always do a two-for-one deal: one pair of my glasses frames are fairly thick, although I was actually considering some of the designer brands with big, variously-coloured frames. So these are a kind of comprimise between my normal small, rectangular frames and something a big more 'fashionable'!

In some situations thick glasses are very cool, most of the time, no...

In a cruel twist of fate, they may go on to become your favourite band ever. Then you'll be sorry.

Yeah I heard that too. I even got excited for nothing once, recently, as a band named Pulp was announced in a club in Montpellier, south of France. I was thinking "no way? THE Pulp? Secret comeback or what?". But no, unfortunaly not, just a bunch of newcomers with the same name. Needless to say I didn't go to the show.

Come on, it's Jarvis Cocker for God sake! You just can't criticize him! But yeah, I quite agree with you with any other case.

Some friends of mine who live in Paris saw him two weeks ago with his wife and his child near a merry-go-round in the 18ème, I think he's living there now.

Hey kfs, I apologize, I was a bit rude. I feel where you're coming from; for instance I hate emo kids and their hair and their skinny pants and studded belts and eyeliner. As for thick glasses, the Jarvis Cocker "I'm a nerd from the 70s and I only wear shades of brown" is starting to get to me, but I think it's the whole package that annoys me, you know? The glasses by themselves, maybe not so bad. But when you're doing the whole look, it's a bit much. Pretty basic rule of fashion I would imagine, you want to coordinate without looking like you're wearing a costume. Like western shirts (you know: snaps, flannel pattern, traingle shaped things above the pockets, etc). I like them, I own a few. Pair them with some decent jeans and some cools shoes, you're good to go. Cowboy hat and boots? Now you're wearing a cowboy costume.

I think I've been watching too much Project Runway.

I've had to swap my general glasses for a relatively tame pair, I can't upload the picture for some reason, but they're red and skinny framed.

My reading glasses are a little bit Jarvis Cocker but they're brown and not really especially emo looking.

The point where I disagree with youse all is on the sunglasses, the big ones suit me, all others don't. I have a little round head, big round sunglasses just fit right.
Carl Posted - 10/10/2006 : 12:56:52
I need to get new glasses soon, and I was actually thinking of getting thick rims for a change......

PixieSteve Posted - 10/10/2006 : 10:25:19
have you ever tried to see how well your sunglasses hide your eyes when you look to the side by looking in a mirror? i did :(

Enormous sunglasses are incredibly useful for perving reasons alone and I refuse to give mine up

Lead me not into temptation; I can find the way myself.

I don't have anything against thick framed glasses if they are prescription. Or at least moderately thick. Are you talking insanely thick? Perhaps a visual aid would help.

I do HATE those huge sunglasses girls these days are wearing. It is not attractive when half a girls face is covered up from a pair of sunglasses. Eyes are sexy damnit.

They are ridiculously huge.

Its like I didn't have time to put on my 15 pounds of make-up so I'll just cover up 60% of my face with sunglasses...

kitty won't acknowledge that i've posted at all...and hers are fine...reasonable reading-glasses style. i'm talking about the ones that are very obviously an attention grabber.
white frames too.
why?
because you want people to look at you.

im just old and boring and hate stuff.

Kitty is gonna kick your ass Kim.

I like them, but you have to have hair. I'd look like a right dick with a pair on.

Yes. I hate sunglasses in general, except when used functionally as when driving. Come on momma: don't hide. Men may be emotional infants but if anything that means we need the eye contact. I hate seeing suggestive cheek bones over pursed libs clouded by no eyes. Give us a break. They say "eyes are the window to the soul". If you got some, show it.

floop Posted - 10/09/2006 : 14:39:04
i don't mind them so much on their own.. but when combined with a shaved head and one of these...

at least that's what your mom said

i like them... well, the more rectangle shaped ones. cliche i know. but so's your mum.
