I was thinking about things, like songs, or bands or movies that people might not have heard about when they came out, but that people would really like.

An example: "Landspeed Song" from Tanya Donelly's first solo album ( Lovesongs for Underdogs ). It should've been a single, but now, most people will probably never hear it, which is a shame.

Can you think of anything that was overlooked at the time, but deserves a second look?

These aren't really obscure things, just a couple things I thought of:

Movies:
The Rules of Engagement Samuel L. Jackson, Tommy Lee Jones
A very exciting movie from the director of The Exorcist. ( The DVD has commentary from the director. )

The Winslow Boy based on a true story, the guy who plays the father is very good, the lawyer too.

Music:
old Throwing Muses, like "Finished" & "Fish".
Belly B-sides, like "Sexy S" & "Baby's Arm"
Tanya Donelly B-sides, like "Influenza" & "Days of Grace"

The Rules Of Engagement was generally slated when it was released. I haven't seen it, though.

I love Communion, the 'true' (ahem) story of Whitley Strieber's encounters with strange alien beings, with a brilliant performance by Christopher Walken in the lead role. It's a little chessy in places, but it has a great, creepy atmosphere and some intriguingly weird scenes.
