I hope you (dear readers) are not dissapointed with the content of this thread after that attention grabbing subject line. Anyway... reading an interview with Jimmy Tamborello (Postal Service/Dntel/James Figurine), I can across an intersting portion where they discussed Apple seemed to copy, nearly frame for frame, a Postal Service video for one of their commercials. Apparently, the same director worked on both. The interview asked about any possible legal proceedings, Jimmy states that they didn't sue. However, he does hint that Apple provided compensation, perhaps in the form of some promotion on iTunes. Basically, this made me feel all icky. This isn't 'payola' or anything, but what the fuck? The whole business is just so shady, I don't even want to know anymore, you know?

I saw that on Youtube, I think. Oh, well, the Postal Service video is boring anyway. The song kind of is, too.

not that i don't think it's sucky but.. most likely The Postal Service doesn't have control of the rights for the video, but the production company who made it. and if it's the same director, it's likely that it's the same company. hence, they can rip themselves off all they want..

I felt the same thing Mike. I don't really think the Postal Service needed the help either, which makes it even murkier.
