Posted - 08/29/2006 : 15:03:53 This is a really basic question that's bugged me for a long time, in fact I'd meant to post this eons ago...but what do you reckon is the best player for video/music? I have Windows Media Player and the basic versions of Quicktime, iTunes, Realplayer, Winamp and DivX. I normally use Winamp. Of course, I know some players won't play certain files. And opinions differ-I know Quicktime, for instance, is both loved and loathed! In any case, let the great player debate begin!

Yeah, I have used VLC for a while and it never ceases to impress me. I like the still shots; where you can take snapshots from DVD's and save them as pics. I have never to this date had a video file that VLC couldn't play. I like the network function too - you can play the same media file easily on every computer on your network - great for parties! |

True, HD Quicktime trailers are sublime!

Posted - 08/29/2006 : 15:41:45 RealPlayer? I like what they've done with Rhapsody - especially lately (you can link any song on the web and people who are members can go and listen free) - but their player is awful!
WinAmp for playing files on a double-click or that I haven't put it my library. iTunes for the library. Video tends to just be WiMP or else VLC if WiMP can't play it. I also hate Quicktime.

Posted - 08/29/2006 : 15:15:39 I dislike windows media player because if you are trying to fast forward through videos (by moving the marker) you don't see all the frames from point A to B. You just have to let go of the marker and hope you land somewhere close to where you want.
Not with quicktime. You drag the marker, you see all the frames in between. |
