Posted - 08/24/2006 : 09:35:21 Are amazing! Saw them in New York yesterday, the band has alot of energy live, much different than on cd and the new songs sound really cool too. Also J Mascis opened up for them and he was really cool, ripping his acoustic guitar like an electric one solo-amazing!

Posted - 04/21/2007 : 21:02:49 I've seen them 5 or 6 times. They are fun live. I saw them on two tours with Modest Mouse in the late 90's. Those were great shows. It was before Oh, Inverted World and it was still killer. I was suprised how well the Wincing the Night Away songs sounded live. Kudos to them.

I dunno, I guess it's just two different people's opinions of the same gig. It just shows that even at a relatively small venue, it can still be viewed quite differently.

Posted - 04/04/2007 : 07:19:25 No, we were near the front, in the middle. The Shins have a lot of exciting songs and I'd have expected the crowd to have got into it a bit, and the band (particularly the singer) to have not held back so much. Maybe it is a Manchester thing, too cool for school? I always have more fun when I go gigs in Liverpool

Posted - 04/04/2007 : 04:58:49 Bands like The Shins don't get people jumping up and down (well, not many). At least, not in Manchester anyway.
They seemed to be really enjoying themselves to me, and none of the people I went with thought they looked bored at all. That's the third time I have seen them, and the best.
Were you at the back?

You don't think they were animated? Obviously, I don't care for people to be doing synchronised stage jumps, but the singer just looked bored, and all that "Hey Manchesterrr" stuff got a bit tiresome, and seemed rather desperate. The crowd seemed to respond in kind, there was no real jumping up and down or anything like that. It was all a bit sedate.

I'm glad to hear this! Me and my mate were gutted we didn't get tickets in time... Still would have liked to have seen them. I'm not sure how much I like them, some of it doesn't really grab me, but there's at least 3 songs I really love a lot.

Posted - 04/02/2007 : 01:58:59 Viva Voce opened and they covered Modern lovers too. A great show, even if they let the lights on for the crowd because they were four cameras shooting the concert. This was quite annoying. |

Posted - 10/24/2006 : 20:21:15 Holy cow I just found an acoustic performace by James Mercer from 2004. Downloaded it from a torrent. He plays 13 songs, one a cover of the "The Holiday Song," and the sound quality is great.
If you are itching for some new Shins and haven't heard this yet, I recommend it. |

'Sleeping Lessons' 'Australia' 'Pam Berry' 'Phantom Limb' 'Sea Legs' 'Red Rabbits' 'Turn On Me' 'Black Wave' 'Split Needles' 'Girl Sailor' 'A Comet Appears'

Posted - 09/05/2006 : 19:10:33 That Iron & Wine "Such Great Heights" is definitely on an M & M's commercial. It's all "psychedellic" patterns and then I think some dude on a bench eats an M & M at the end. |

What? What does this even mean? These guys had a song in a McDonald's commercial and were mentioned, on screen, by Natalie Portman. Not exactly a 'cult' following.

The Shins reveal all about new album release
The cult rockers finally get round to putting third LP out The Shins have confirmed the release date of their long-awaited new album 'Wincing The Night Away'.
The cult American indie band, who pulled out of their slot at this year's Carling Weekend; Reading and Leeds festivals to finish the record, will release it on January 22 next year (23rd in the States).
The Shins been working on the follow-up to 2003's 'Chutes Too Narrow' with producer Phil Ek since September in Seattle, finishing the LP in frontman James Mercer's home studio.
Speaking about the release date on their official website, the band wrote: "Trust us if we had our way it would be out next week, but 'The Man' has seen fit to do otherwise.
"The good folks at Sub Pop have scheduled this like a finely tuned machine, and we have all the confidence in the world that January is the magic month for a reason. We are excited."
New songs which have already been premiered live include 'Circus Walk', 'Phantom' and 'Australia'.
